Props to Derrick Goold

For my last paper in English class, I'm writing a hypothetical proposal to Bud Selig asking him to install a salary cap/floor on MLB teams. I needed a good source with some quotes, so last weekend I tried my hand at e-mailing a few of the sports writers from the P-D. I didn't know if I'd get a response or not, but I thought it was worth a shot.

Not a single one wrote back to me, until I got this response from Derrick Goold a few hours ago:

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. It's been a bit of a sad and
long week, as you can imagine. I'll take a look at your email tomorrow after I travel back from the series in Milwaukee. I like the fact that you
mention a floor. Back on the NHL beat, that was my biggest beef with the
conversation about that league's new CBA. Why agree to a cap, when you
don't force owners to also have a floor?

I was just impressed that he took the time to write that back to me. He was one of the few P-D sports writers that I always appreciated in the past, and I do even moreso now.

I've always liked Derrick Gold, especially when he was back covering the Blues.

I've always really liked Goold. He posts great info on the stltoday forums, but without the BM attitude.

Goold has always been very good at answering fan's questions. He's a good guy and a quality writer.
