When I used to teach golf we'd encourage young kids to take a good rip at the ball. We can always get you to cut your swing down a bit if you need straightening, while you're hitting the ball 280+ off the tee. However, it's tough to teach a straight short hitter to hit it longer. Not sure if the analogy completely applies to hitting in baseball but it's nice to know he's got the power to go deep. Let Rick keep pounding the ball and see if he gets any better, BA-wise, as he continues to get more ABs.

Ankiel hits another one tonight.

That makes 9 HRs, 31 RBIs and a .281 Avg.

I'm starting to think he will be in our outfield playing a large role next year, if not by August this year.

I think it would be worth giving him a long look. Worst thing that can happen is that Juanton Taguchimacher becomes Ruanton Taguchkielmacher.

EDIT: I'd wait until I was ready to move Rasmus to AAA though. Maybe late this year.

I agree with you guys. I don't see the harm in giving him a shot. But if they bring him up, I would hope that they're prepared to let him play. Riding the bench isn't going to do him much good at this point.

He really needs to play everyday, and he won't get that up here. I can see a September call when the rosters expand, but not before then. He'll get looks, and then off to winter ball. And then spring training 2008.

I wouldn't bring him up until he has at least 300 ABs in AAA. Who knows? This start could be a flash. He needs to prove it.
