Juan E. "prepared to miss opening day"

Post by heyzeus »

(note: the actual article quotes Juan as saying he is feeling better and better; so the situation is overall more optimistic than the headline)

Juan Encarnacion (wrist) said Monday that he's prepared to miss Opening Day if his recovery doesn't pick up soon.
Encarnacion took live batting practice Monday for the third time. "It's better. It's better," Encarnacion said. "But I would rather be able to play all year than to try and rush right now to be ready and only play a little bit before having a problem again."

Scene from Cardinals ST Clubhouse

TLR: Okay, lets see some hands here. How many of you guys are going to be able to play in the opener? I need at least 9 guys or we have to forfeit. C'mon man...this is serious @#$%!

Encarnacion has a long swing and he strikes me as a high-maintenance hitter. With no spring training, he might be even worse than last year. Of course, he probably can't start worse.

The lineup on April 1:

SS - Aaron Miles
LF - Chris Duncan
1B - Albert Pujols
3B - Scott Rolen
2B - Scott Spiezio
RF - Rick Ankiel
C - Yadier Molina
CF - So Taguchi

Looks like a lineup that you would usually use in March...

Maybe we can ask Major League Baseball if they would let Albert hit and when he's on base substitute the hitter with albert and let the hitter run for Albert.
