Busch stadium improvments

I hadn't seen a thread on this yet, Bernie talked to Dewitt and said these renovations would be done in time for the opener...

* A new, full set of escalators on the right-field side, near Gate 1.

* The row of seats added to the field for the 2006 postseason are permanent seats for 2007.

* They cut back on standing-room areas; too many standing-room areas were encroaching on the seating areas. But in reducing the number of standing-room tix sold, they added new permanent seats in roughly equal numbers, "a few hundred" according to Lamping.

* They doubled the size of the video board, and part of that will include a much larger out-of-town scoreboard. And they accomplished by removing some advertising.

* New and prominent St. Louis Cardinals sign near the bridge near the Musial statue.

* Lamping said south side facade (facing Highway 64-40) was "bland" so they wanted to dress that up and make a splash visible for those driving into the city on 64-40. So they'll have a prominent display of the NL pennants and World Series championships won by the Cardinals. Nice idea. Nice touch.

* Renovated press box

Sounds good, especially the visitor scoreboard.

Now if we can just figure out a way to get rid of the fans who sit on their hands the whole game except when they feel the need to boo a Cardinals player...

Boo. I thought the standing room areas were great.

There were too many of them though. Especially the ones that people would stack about 6 or 7 deep in a walkway.

I posted something way back in January regarding the SRO situation/escalator. This is quoted from a letter the Cardinals mailed, with a little more detail:

Feedback from season ticket holders has led to many improvements for the 2007 season in the new Busch Stadium. An escalator will be added to the 1st base/ RF side which will service all seating levels of the ballpark. Also SRO patrons will no longer be allowed to reside behind infield field box sections (141-159) and the # of SRO tix availavble will be reduced. Finally additional restrooms will be built to help create more parity and additional options for all fans. We appreciate your feedback and patience as we make every attempt to make your experience at the new Busch stadium fun and memorable.

Considering the time crunch they were under, I'm surprised that they don't need more.

Boo. I thought the standing room areas were great.

There were too many of them though. Especially the ones that people would stack about 6 or 7 deep in a walkway.

Yeah, and I could see how those would get annoying to the folks who pay good money to sit in those lower seats have to squeeze through those areas because the people never stay within the lines.

They're nice areas to stand and watch the game for a minute or so, but I don't think it's a good idea to sell those areas expecting people to stand there the entire time.

I don't like the full digital scoreboard. I wish they had a classic style scoreboard. To cut down on the manual labor for score changes, have the old-style light bulb numbers. It's not like they show a bunch of extra info on that board right now anyway.

Cutting back SRO is fine with me, and that's where I spent most of last season. The ones behind the plate were great for a limited time, but it was just too small for the amount of people who tried to stand there.

The best place for standing is still the left field, and as long as they haven't cut that down, I don't have any problems.

Reducing advertising is always a good move.
