Re: Getting into shape
Starting to mix back in speedwork. The local shoe store puts on summer track workout program. Really helps, doing that with a group. Humbling and informative.
Still, at my age-mixing it up and going to gym and a long run on trail important. Being able to do it all and recover -it is not as easy as once was.
Mile time trial in a couple weeks. Then see what sort of 5k i can muster. Then shift back to running longer again. Heat can slow me down, but not going to get frustrated by that fact this yr

Re: Getting into shape
Found out my ankle bone thing is broken. Must've been that way for 6 weeks now.

Re: Getting into shape
Slowly moving toward single leg squats. I had been doing full squats with my heels together (feet angles 30 degrees to the side) to develop ankle strength. Now I'm doing squats with one leg a normal pace in front. Once I master that on each leg, I'll move the leg out a bit further, and then on an object, until I can do the squats with the non working leg balancing on a basketball. Gonna take a loooong time.

that sounds brutal.JCShutout wrote:Slowly moving toward single leg squats. I had been doing full squats with my heels together (feet angles 30 degrees to the side) to develop ankle strength. My kid has me doing a workout course at local park -those things you never see anybody use. we get 3+miles running in with this too. pull ups, monkey bars, dips, situps, leg raises and a couple other core type things. different than what I'm used to, even the pull up bars, or dips not an easy grip. my muscles are confused.

New milestone. 4 miles in 39:11. I'm feeling great but can't lose any [expletive] weight. Damn old age metabolism.

Re: Getting into shape
Nearly six months since my last weight update in this thread. I'm only down ten more pounds. That puts me at 50 total but I'm a little frustrated it isn't more. It's just a discipline thing and I've got to improve it. I do feel better though and am more mobile.

Re: Getting into shape
So after a lot of slow moving strength training, even though I'm making progress in modified work, building up strength to eventually do pull ups, I got an itch a couple of weeks ago and just tried to see if I could do one. Got closer than I ever expected. Eyes/nose to the bar. Tried again tonight just because...
and BAM. First TWO pullups since I was in grade school.
