That would make no sense...the marlins are not going to give them permission to talk to stanton and get a yes/no, unless they have a deal near/in place. They’d lose leverage with a team if they just willy nilly start letting teams talk to him.Magneto2.0 wrote:

I dont know. Can you quote me on this? Not saying I don't "whine" about this and that in GDT's. But, "scrappy"? I loved DeJong's 2017. I want a fundamentally sound Cardinal Team.Joe Shlabotnik wrote:Now, MLG, isn't this where the scrappy, barely replacement level hitter with crappy defense that you've been whining about for multiple pages in a GDT goes yard on a pitch well out of the zone?MinorLeagueGuy wrote:I hope we didn't work too hard with this farce. He was never coming here. We need our headspace ready for the next move. I also hope the stringing out of this by Miami doesn't hinder the possibility of making future trades with them. I still think its a [expletive] tactic, using a team a leverage that never had a chance.
Yeah, I'd like that about now too.

True but maybe it’s a case where they have the deal in place technically (Giants and Marlins agree) but since they need Stanton to approve it, they’re allowing the Giants to speak to him to convince him how great San Francisco is.cardsfantx wrote:That would make no sense...the marlins are not going to give them permission to talk to stanton and get a yes/no, unless they have a deal near/in place. But that tweet says nothing is in place/they may just be feeling out the situation and get an idea whether he’d accept a trade there or not. The marlins aren’t going to give SF permission to speak with stanton’s camp unless a deal is in place.

Yeah, that’s correct/what they did with schilling...Magneto2.0 wrote:True but maybe it’s a case where they have the deal in place technically (Giants and Marlins agree) but since they need Stanton to approve it, they’re allowing the Giants to speak to him to convince him how great San Francisco is.cardsfantx wrote:That would make no sense...the marlins are not going to give them permission to talk to stanton and get a yes/no, unless they have a deal near/in place. If there’s no deal in place, and Stanton’s group says no, then SF is out/you can’t use them to leverage another team.

Again, that makes NO sense. Unless the marlins have a tentative deal in place with ALL three teams and will let them all try and convince Stanton’s group that their team is the best of the group.MrCrowesGarden wrote:

Plot twist: The Giants have the best offer on the table but Stanton really wants to play for the Cards.
