Melania Trump was not "cribbing" from Michelle Obama when Trump spoke at the Republican National Convention on Monday night, Donald Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort told CBS on Tuesday morning.

Melania Trump's speech was criticized by some after a portion of the text appeared to have similar wording to Obama's 2008 Democratic National Convention talk.

"There's no cribbing of Michelle Obama's speech," Manafort said. "These were common words and values. She cares about her family and things like that. I mean she was speaking in front of 35 million people last night, she knew that."

"To think that she would be cribbing Michelle Obama's words is crazy. I mean, and so this is once again an example of when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton, she seeks out to demean her and take her down. It's not going to work."

Yeah, you could go on and on and list all the inventions that came out of places other than Western Europe. Those are probably the things that neoliberals and Republicans would value above everything else. And that list would be plenty long. Then there is the entire list of cultural contributions to humanity from all these other places. Religion. Art. Music. Literature. Etc. Those things are not valued at all by Republicans because acknowledging them leads to that scary, scary multiculturalism. This stuff is probably more what King is concerned with. It's a great example of pure willful ignorance.

I wouldn't say that all republicans are white suremacists, but I would say that all white supremacists are republicans.

I mean, that's obviously wrong about Republicans. There are a lot of reasons people are Republican and not all of them are cultural. The guy that said this has a bit of history as a racist. Those ideas do get a disturbing amount of traction in Republican circles, to the point you have articles and blog posts from mainstream GOP publications like National Review about the innate goodness of Western values, etc... Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, and people of that ilk always seems to find a home on some conservative platform. All the conservative radio hosts routinely make sweeping generalizations about other cultures. But I know plenty of moderate Republicans.

it's similar to when people (most often Republicans non-coincidentally) say about Muslims - " they need to do more to root out the dangerous extremists in their midst" and that they are complicit with these elements by association.

ISIS etc may have bastardized out of Islam, and Trump etc has spawned from GOP ideology -

But Just as it's not fair to blame all Muslims for the few, it's not really fair to blame all republicans -especially random individuals- for the likes of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. I am not sure what control would a Muslim American have over such things as ISIS when there have been zealots riffing off religion for their own purposes since the beginning of religion.

However, a republican can have a say in his own party - by not voting and supporting these morans in it's midst and trying to pass off this bull [expletive] that it's all the same as Hillary blah blah blah.

All this makes a good case for not being part of any group other than your family, this shared responsibility for the worst parts of it. which is why I hesitate to be a joiner, but will sometimes loosely align with a group when it serves a purpose.

I didn't vote for that Idiot, and neither did about 55% of republicans, but he got more votes than the other Republican idiots who were running.
