Actually, Salas is doing well for the Angels. He's 3-0 with a .236 BAA, 25 Ks vs 10 BBs in 24 innings. That's pretty impressive. Did you even look at his stats before you said he wasn't doing well?mikechamp wrote:At least Salas is doing well for the Angels.Vidor wrote:Gotta wonder how long Anaheim's willing to live with that.sighyoung wrote:Freese's career is becoming the stuff of Greek tragedy.Vidor wrote:David Freese Slugging Percentage

Yeah, I wasn't being sarcastic, and I'm not permanently sarcastic. As was stated, I always use that color font and have for... oh, about 8-10 years and thousands of posts.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:You know mikechamp always uses blue font, right?Cole Burns wrote:Actually, Salas is doing well for the Angels. Re: Former Cardinals Watch
I just got my 8-year old son to start playing baseball on video gaming systems. The other day he was playing while I was sitting in there, and the opposing pitcher threw a wild pitch that was WAY outside. He said, "That looked like Ankiel." While sadly true, I started laughing loudly.
What I didn't realize is that my son, who is new to watching and truly caring about the Cards, saw a pre-game special on Ankiel last week. They showed and talked about the Braves game where he fell apart. We had never talked about Ankiel as a pitcher, so it surprised me and struck me as funny.
Okay, back to current players.

Salas actually hasn't been that great. 6 inherited runners...6 runners scored. He has mostly been put in low-leverage situations.

Speaking of Ankiel, this is a really great interview with him from a week or so ago. Writing a book, possibly a movie...addressing everything from his childhood/family to the reasons he thinks things went south to the comeback.

That can be a misleading stat. More context is needed.Cheddar Tom wrote:Salas actually hasn't been that great. 6 inherited runners...6 runners scored. He has mostly been put in low-leverage situations.
If he's inherited only runners on 1st with 2 outs and they're scoring, then that's poor.
If he's inheriting runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and they're scoring, that's a lot more understandable.

Tie game: T7, Runner on 3rd, 1 out (Allows run to score)mikechamp wrote:More context is needed.
Down 2: T6, Runners on 1st and 2nd, 0 out (Allows both runners to score, leaves with the team trailing by 6)
Ahead 1: T7, Runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 out (Allows both runners to score, leaves with the team trailing by 1
Tie game: B9, Runner on 2nd, 1 out (Allows run to score)

IMO, I would rate those as:
Kind of understandable
Understandable (the inherited runners, not the additional 2 runs)
Very poor
Poor
Having said all that, you still need guys to eat innings, regardless of the stress level of the situation. It appears, based on the stats and even with the inherited runner blemishes, he represents a better return than Freese, which was the original point I was making (and also... probably not the Angels' purpose for making that trade).

Rotoworld blurb....
Edward Mujica gave up a three-run homer after getting just one out in the 12th inning Wednesday against the Indians.
That's five homers allowed for Mujica this year. He's been terribly ineffective in the first season of a two-year, $9 million contract, amassing a 7.29 ERA to date. Furthermore, he doesn't have a single hold in his 22 appearances.
