Somehow, we've been able to debate for hours over whether or not someone we know virtually nothing about was a smart choice for vice president...and we've been able to come to very few conclusions that everyone can agree on.

State Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone called her at 6 a.m. to tell her the news.

"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president? said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

Green, who has feuded with Palin, brought up the big oil tax increase Palin pushed through last year. She also pointed to the award of a $500 million state subsidy to a Canadian firm to pursue a natural gas pipeline that's far from guaranteed.

House Speaker John Harris, a Republican from Valdez, was also astonished at the news. He didn't want to get into the issue of her qualifications.

"She's old enough," Harris said. "She's a U.S. citizen."

Keep digging up us much negative stuff as you can. You might convince someone. Seriously.
Anybody who says if their daughter was raped and impregnated, that she'd refuse her to get an abortion, no matter what she wanted to do, is absolutely bat [expletive] crazy. I don't need to convince everyone. Everyone will be convinced thoroughly by November.
Wait a second..

She's bat crazy because she doesn't want to kill a child?

Makes sense I guess...wow

I mean I understand that you're pro choice, and I understand that that's a horrible situation, but, why couldn't they put the child up for adoption after it was born? The kid won't know how he/she was conceived, and he/she may go on to do great things..

Sorry, but I really don't think refusing to play God is acting bat crazy
To me that is an incredibly personal question that each will resolve in their own way. That's an answer that has no right or wrong answer on a personal level.

But I have a strong opinion in what governments role in this decision should be.
Sure,

But deciding one way or another doesn't make ANYONE bat crazy..

Which is what I took offense with in the first place

It's bordering on insanity the amt. of vitrol PujolsJunkie is throwing at the Republican VP nominee right now

Highly disappointing.
I'm pretty certain he said he was looking forward to not reading it.

It's just a sounding board.

Seriously, there are a couple of conservatives on here that I have deep admiration for that I would love to ask a question of, but I don't know how to phrase and I don't even know if it's possible to explain over a bulletin board. But really there are two in particular that I think I would love to spend an evening talking these things over with - I think I would be a better person for it.

I said I would not be reading this. But don't worry, the reason I don't care is because I'm voting for your guy.

Just curious about the VP thing. I definitely LOL'd at work today when someone told me what happened. And well, now I'm drunk so thinking it through is out of the question.

That Ms Palin's fellow Alaska Republicans think she's not worthy is a plus in my eyes.

It's not insanity. I'm just stating my opinion. It's the same exact argument that I've used all day and that Democrats have used all day.

I'm only holding McCain to the standard that he set for himself when he said he wouldn't run an attack campaign...

of course, having a liar in politics isn't anything new, for either side...

btw, did you guys know that using a condom or birth control is akin to abortion? well, it is...

as is that other dirty thing that guys do by themselves, quite often, apparently...

like I said earlier, this country is just extremely divided right now...

you have some people in the country that would like to discuss political ideals (human rights, individual rights, state's rights, education, sneaky politicians) and you have other people in the country that are more concerned with the morals of other people (not necessarily themselves)...
there is a disconnect in the conversation because of this, which means we won't get anywhere and 50.7% of the population will continue to try and tell 49.3% of the population how they should live their lives...

You guys need to tone down the rhetoric, the [expletives], and the name calling if you want this thread to remain open.

I understand that. But it's a little disappointing that we seem to be taking on the roles that we see on TV where the right adamantly supports the pick while the left does the opposite.

I've been watching PBS primarily over the past year and watching guys like David Brooks and Mark Shields discuss politics and find things to agree on and both recognize the motivation behind the moves that are made, although they hold completely opposite views politically. That the majority of this discussion has relied on the talking points heard on TV and radio today or digressed into typical political argument is somewhat discouraging.

I know, I have the freedom to leave anytime I want but I would have thought that this forum was capable of a more objective discussion. It seems the best you can hope for is that no one responds to your post. But getting anyone to admit that good points were made by those with an opposite view is few and far between.
