I used to get winded & sore next day from slow-pitch softball.

I was doing it wrong.

It will take all week to undo the damage of today. Chili and nachos and jalapeño poppers and mozarella sticks and red velvet cake and beer and bacon and eggs of all god damned things. I'm actually on the crapper right now dealing with this.

I still attribute some knee issues to running the bases. Basically, run as fast as you can in a straight line and then turn 90 degrees to the left. Obviously, you round the bases when trying to go more than one base, but the turns are not slight and when you hit balls into the gap (like I obviously always did) and trying to leg out doubles and triples, those turns are violent. I'd say a good 5 or 6 strides at full speed trying to make the tightest radius possible are just not going to be good for your right knee. Do that after 10 minutes of only slightly moving around at 3B or 2B in the field...and..yeah, it takes a toll. After tearing my ACL, I had to stop doing it because I'd be so sore the next day.

You need to round the bases more, you don't run a 5 route. You don't necessarily want the tightest radius at all. It's why when you lead off of 2nd base with 2 outs you take 1 step less toward 3rd base but 3 steps toward the outfield so that you round the bag better.

Tempo run. Hate it so much. I still don't know if I'm running long enough or at the right pace. I did 1.5 miles in 10:55, 3 seconds faster than last week. I really didn't know what a good time is, because I'm not much of a runner, but according to this chart I'm doing ok, especially for an old man. Actually now that I think about it that chart is b-s, but it makes me feel good. The other guys I'm going this challenge with are faster than me, one guy ran the mile in 6:10 last year and another guy ran it in 6:49. I'd love to beat that last guy, but the first guy I have no chance for.

In other news my neck/head is better but still bothers me, I'm doing some upper body work but something is definitely not right. I can at least deal with it now, which is better than 2 weeks ago when it was pretty bad. I guess it will just take time.
