I don't know, you can find some pretty damn good steaks at a place like Kenrick's, or online (Niman Ranch Store).

If you can generate enough heat, know how to treat different cuts etc, you can replicate it pretty well. If anything the leg up they have is equipment and knowledge. The guy who takes a sirloin, doesn't season it well, puts it on a 400 degree charcoal grill and doesn't let it rest is going to be blown away by a professional steakhouse steak.

Whatever the reasons steaks at a steakhouse are better than what I do on a grill. I can do good and flirt with great, but can never knock your socks off. Seafood the only advantage I have is freshness if I catch a wild fish myself. What I mean by wild is non-stocked. Up in Wisconsin you can fish these little spring fed cold spring creeks for trout who were born and raised right there - as opposed to trout raised on Purina Trout Chow that are dumped in from the hatchery truck. There is a night and day difference between those. People in Illinois line up shoulder to shoulder to catch these trout that they dump in the ponds and lakes in April because ... we'll they are trout. Good eating. Except they aren't - they taste terrible.

Come live on the coast and you'll do the reverse. I'll eat fresh seafood all day for under $20, but I'm not paying more than that, even for lobster.

I lived near the coast for many years, but not close enough to get anything cheap except crawfish.

I would never and have never ordered lobster. I probably never will.

You eat crab legs but not lobster? Makes no sense.

I would (and have) eaten lobster but I would never pay for it or order it. I don't think it is (price-ratio) much better than crab legs.

I don't have taste for lobster. It is good, but nowhere near as good as the price, imo.

On another note, I wish I could ask restaurants to show me their shrimp before I order a shrimp dish.

Crab legs aren't cheap. I do agree that Crab legs are the better value maybe - and in fact that's what I got last week at Red Lobster ($30 btw), but lobster is pretty good too.

Red Lobster [expletive] blows. If you have to spend $30 at a chain, that chain sucks ass. Or put to put it another way, Andouille encrusted Sea Scallops>>>>>>>>>>Red Lobster Crab Legs. Also, last time I went to Red Lobster becuase they had a commercial and everything looked good. When I went, nothing from the commercial was available. So, I ordered fried pollack or something and shrimp and scallops. Apparently it should have read as Fried pollack, fried shrimp and fried scallops. Did you even know you could order scallops fried? I sure didn't. And when the scallops are the size of peas, somethings amiss.

So...one part my bad for not asking if everythign was fried and assuming it wasn't. One part their bad for actually having scallops that are frie.d And, the pollack or flounder or whatever the [expletive] it was tasted like they had dug to the bottom of a 5 month old fish waste barrel, made a patty and fried that up. the shrimp were just as fishy. The scallops tasted like fries because they were so small all you could taste was the fried breading. Overall, horrible. I didn't even eat it....just boxed it up and fed it to the cat.

The shrimp nachos were pretty good after we took off the shrimp.

Pretty much sums up a lot of stuff for me if you replace crab legs with 'burger'.

Also, crawfish season is coming up and while I don't really enjoy crawfish, crawfish boils are one of the better excuses to get together and drink all day.

I like crab legs better than lobster, so the fact that they are cheaper is a bonus.

One time my buddy and I went to Red Lobster for all you can eat crab legs piss ass drunk and just chowed down. I don't think they plan for that when they offer "all you can eat".
