If it's Bill Callahan, I'm punching someone in the throat.
If they did that(hire a guy from the WCO), I'd want it to be a guy from Philly.

LaCanfora says Josh McDaniels is a possibility in St. Louis if Shurmur takes a job elsewhere.

I like that idea, but McDaniels isn't from the WCO and changing types of offense after Bradford's been in the league for only a year is usually not a good thing.

Re: McDaniels

I've run the gamut with this guy. I was indifferent when the Broncos hired him, really liked his high energy after year 1, and lost all respect for him this year.

Keep in mind that he's the only guy ever to be involved in 2 "Spygate" incidents. His chracter/integrity are shot. And while he appeared to be an offensive/quarterback mastermind while in New England, it should be noted that Tom Brady is having arguably his best season this year...... 2 years after McDaniels left. As a Broncos fan, I can tell you that his playcalling can make you scratch your head sometimes.

He wouldn't be the Rams HC. And Spags wouldn't let McDaniels cheat. The only probably I'd have is if the Rams didn't get a RB besides Jackson, because he never developed a run game in NE or Denver.

I don't think anybody "let" him cheat in Denver, per se. And it's not so much a matter of whether he would get away with it or not. I'm bothered by the fact that he thought he needed to cheat, and didn't have the character to stop himself from doing it. It's more of a statement on the type of guy that he is.

Like I said, I like his energy, and I think he's probably got a good offensive mind (not sure that I'd call him great at this point). Honestly, I think he probably just needs some maturity, more than anything.

And frankly, I'm probably a little biased, being a Broncos fan.

If Shurmur went to Cleveland I'd love to have McDaniels as the OC. The guy ain't afraid to stretch the field, that's for darn sure. And Spags wouldn't put up with any of his BS.

I don't know Spags well enough to know if that's true, but if it is, then you're probably better off looking for other options rather than have the OC and the HC butting heads. Because I can assure you that McDaniels is as stubborn as they come.

AKRON, Ohio -- The ties between St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and the Browns' front office can't be underestimated.

Several NFL executives have reportedly taken notice and identified those connections as potential deciding factors in the Browns' coaching search. On Sunday NFL Countdown, ESPN's Chris Mortensen said many league executives believe Shurmur might be the favorite to replace coach Eric Mangini, who was fired Jan. 3. The Browns formally interviewed Shurmur, 45, Friday at their headquarters in Berea, Ohio. They also interviewed Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey, 49, Saturday in the Atlanta area. A league source said the Browns have an interview set up with New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell, 48, sometime this week.

Of those candidates, Shurmur's links to Browns President Mike Holmgren and General Manager Tom Heckert are the strongest. As an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Eagles (1999-2008), Shurmur developed roots in Holmgren's coaching tree by learning the West Coast offense from coach Andy Reid. He also became familiar with Heckert, who worked in the Eagles' front office (2001-09). His late uncle was Fritz Shurmur, who was defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers while Holmgren was the coach.

Mortensen cited all those facts in his report. Although Shurmur has never been a head coach, Mortensen pointed out that he is just about the ideal age for Holmgren to mold.

Left unmentioned is the influence of agent Bob LaMonte, whose company, Professional Sports Representation Inc., has Shurmur, Holmgren and Heckert as clients. Mularkey and Fewell are not represented by LaMonte, but other potential candidates who could surface as the Browns' coaching search develops are. They include ESPN analyst Jon Gruden, former Carolina Panthers coach John Fox and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.
