Why all the hate for the suburbs?

Oh yeah--I have an aunt who winters in Mesa....

If you have kids suburbs have one quality that can just about trump anything ... schools. At least the academic side, I now have a kid who is a Senior in college (jeez that's spooky) who I can now see was extremely well prepared in HS, even though I wondered if he was getting anything out of it. He says the majority of his friends are doing better at college - good colleges -than they did at HS. He said he's seen several honor students at their HS that can hardly hack the curriculum at college.

But then again, with the taxes I pay they better be good schools. Once son #2 is done we are out of there, the taxes are unreal.

This really is true. I had like a 3.2 in high school because I didn't care, but graduated with honors in college (after 2 years of being lazy), and have an even higher gpa in grad school. Parkway put me in a great position for college.

I've got 2 Starbucks w/ in about 3 miles. Not surprising but better than thrills 27!!

According to Starbucks' website, there are 27 stores within 5 miles of my house.

I'm not sure if this really means anything. I think it's all up to the individual student to either succeed or fail. And to a lesser extent, how their parents support them.

I got poor grades the first couple years in college because I didn't care if I was getting C's. I barely worked at it at all. The last couple of years, I did much better because I cared. I don't think it had anything to do with how good my small town high school was or wasn't.

Agree, it really doesn't have much to do w/ where you went to school. You get what you want out of school. I went to a pretty repuatable college prep high school in STL and did terrible in college because I didn't apply myself what so ever.

I'm not saying that their isn't good schools and bad schools because obviously there is, but I think it really has alot to do w/ the persons drive to learn and apply themselves.
