When they rebooted Perry Mason as a hard, dark, Nolan’s Batman meets whoever the new guy doing Batman is and Daniel Craig’s Bond turn—I was super disappointed. I used to watch that as a sick grade schooler while my mother folded laundry. Or on lazy summers while we waited for a parent to take us down to the river. Felt wrong.
Much higher hopes for new Matlock. Kathy Bates? Hell yes. I hope they nail it.

Seems like they could come tm up with a series based on a quirky lawyer without trying to catch lightning in a bottle for a second time. Hard to imagine Mason without it being Burr or Matlock without Griffith.

I thought Mason was great but if you put a private detective in a hat (at the start) in 1930s LA with a lot of saxophone behind it, I’ll probably watch. I will say I could have done with 2-3 episode arcs vs one case a season.

Yeah thats what I was going to post. Give me period LA Noir with a good cast and I don't care what the characters names are or if its existing IP. I'm there for the vibes.

Monsieur Spade (not in LA) started off great, in case you didn't catch it. Gets a little weird and then ends really awkwardly (and I would say badly), but a great vibe for the first several episodes. And great music.

I enjoyed all of it, even though the story did unravel in disappointing ways. I'll also confess I don't know enough about the French-Algerian tensions of the era to get the full impact, but the clothes, the sunglasses, the wine, the french countryside? Excellent. I haven't watched Sugar on apple tv, but I did read the big spoiler. I'll get around to it at some point, because its Colin Farrell in an LA noir.

What are today’s good network-ish (if kids are about) body of the week shows like Monk or Bones or Perry Mason (non fat guy running down the street full frontally nude-version)?
These are good shows to have around. Keep me from watching 30 Rock yet again almost joylessly at this point. But also doesn’t require signing on for some three year arc.
Weird modern world. Very few adult programs to watch with kids around. Meanwhile many kids shows with jokes and parodies no one under 30 could grasp. I think someone could and should make a hilarious adult show that’s perfectly fine for kids. I also think no one wants to.

Will Trent which sure sounds like a boring cbs procedural (actually on abc) but I’ve now heard from multiple people that it’s really good. Probably will try to check it out myself soon.
