Re: Music talk Thread
Circa 1984-85 in the heart of my headbanger days:
Big fans of Iron Maiden 2 friends and I are. Senior year HS English class. The teacher is THE HS English teacher - the one that makes sure you get it right, and pass HS with knowledge of how to phrase a sentence, construct an argument, write a paragraph, and appreciate the English language in all of it's beauty.
She is why I write the way I do today -constantly screwing up use of tense, theirs theres apostrophes, overuse of etc etc and certain words and all that [expletive] etc, well before the use of smart phones and internet destroyed my brain. She solemnly tried to right this ship, but it didn't write.
During her class we created a little Onionesque satire of the class-goings on. We titled it HMNN -Heavy Metal News Network. (yes, we did play sports in HS, hard to believe but we did) While the other guys in our class were rolling up there pants and wearing boat shoes without socks [catholic school illegal!] HMNN was our secret form of protest. All of this was done via passing HMNN contributions as notes in class, just 3-4 of us (as senior in HS ha ha). I recall an advice column called Ask Ted (as in Nugent). Illustrations etc.
The coup of all HMNN history -each student had some sort of project, I can't recall the parameters of it, but involved some display or reading of their favorite literature. This teacher, she really was one of the good ones - but was very serious and humorless.
My buddy's project - he brings in a boombox cassette player - and for the class plays Iron Maiden's song version of "Rime of the Ancient Mariner". The entire class had the lyrics to follow along. I just remember our teacher staying stone cold serious in her following along with the song. The prepsters rocking boat shoes without socks stirring a little uneasy. Girls in their soft and fuzzy sweaters too magical to touch, looking like they craved water water everywhere.
Meanwhile my buddy stays stoic while the rest of the HMNN staff is wide-eyed biting our knuckles to keep from laughing and throwing fist pumps, by all means not banging our heads. That song is over 13 minutes long by the way.

I saw Porno for Pyros in Nashville. I had this chick on my shoulders and some girl tried to kill her.
You know who puts on a helluva show? Los Lobos.

Re: Music talk Thread
I've never seen Les Claypool or any of his bands live which is probably odd for me as a bass player and someone who is appreciative of his talents. I've just always felt like I'd feel really awkward there and that I'd sit around an listen to a lot of really weird ass music for two or three moments of greatness.

I sort of feel the same way about Bela Fleck and the Wootens. I mean I appreciate it but I don't love it.

For driving around town-Stumbled across AM 1190 on the local dial playing Classic country with just enough static.
