No moreso than McCain. Not that I'm going to be voting for McCain anyway.

Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
People have said that she has more experience than Obama and people obviously think she's ready to hold the 2nd highest government position in the entire United States of America. That's alarming to me.Leroy wrote:I don't think anyone said that.PujolJunkie wrote:Oh my [expletive] God. How can anyone say Palin has more experience than Obama? She ran a [expletive] town that has more moose than people. She's the governor of a state that is 47th/50th in population. She's done NOTHING. N-O-T-H-I-N-G. How is she ready to run the United States? She's only been running Alaska for a freaking year and a half!

Well, I'm voting against McCain, so to me it's a good choice. I don't think many undecided voters are going to take Palin seriously, and the non-stop Republican posturing of "she has more experience than Obama" will not stick. Is it a horrible choice because you don't agree w/ it?
But if anything, I find myself continued to be disappointed by McCain. I thought his ad last night was gracious, even if it's pretty funny that the speech fell on the anniversary of some guy who McCain didn't think deserved a national holiday. Sarah Palin is to the far right. John McCain is not. He should've picked someone who helps establish the "maverick" label. A Republican "maverick" does not pick someone idealogically close to Rush Limbaugh.

Yes, Eric Cantor was just on David Gregory's show about 10 minutes saying that Palin has more experience than Obama.PujolJunkie wrote:People have said that she has more experience than Obama and people obviously think she's ready to hold the 2nd highest government position in the entire United States of America. Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
http://www.now.org/press/08-08/08-29.htmlThe fact that Palin is a mother of five who has a 4-month-old baby, a woman who is juggling work and family responsibilities, will speak to many women. But will Palin speak FOR women? Based on her record and her stated positions, the answer is clearly No.
In a gubernatorial debate, Palin stated emphatically that her opposition to abortion was so great, so total, that even if her teenage daughter was impregnated by a rapist, she would "choose life" -- meaning apparently that she would not permit her daughter to have an abortion.

Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
I'm not trying to pull you into a debate that you don't want, jim, but I'm pretty much convinced that some orgs, the Sierra Club specifically and others, have politicized their endorsements, articles, etc. so heavily that they've actually lost the respect of would-be conservative supporters, like myself. I'm an outdoors guy. I'm a clean energy guy. Most of my friends are as well, despite being conservatives. Just in looking through their list of endorsements the Sierra Club has endorsed 3 republican candidates out of the 200+ endorsements they've made, and their statements on their website read more like DNC talking points than thoughtful and non-partisan ideals. Her environmental stances are abysmal, and I will not let her or John McCain into my club. Neither will the Sierra Club or the League of Conservation Voters.
I called this an hour ago.... the "Sportsman for McCain" bumperstickers are probably already on the press.
imo, that's sad, and unfortunately, it's turned a lot of conservation-minded conservatives off toward environmental organizations. I think they would be better off by trying to build bridges across party lines, and reach out to people like me, rather than for all intents and purposes setting themselves up as a special interest branch of the DNC.

I don't hate anyone in this thread. Well, maybe Snayke, but that's just because he unrightly bashes Lil Tone.

What the pick says to me is that McCain recognizes that he's a long shot in November. No other reason for him to take such a high risk candidate. You don't make a selection like this if you're the front runner.GatewaySnayke wrote:I can't believe this thread has reached over 90 pages and most of it came because of Sarah Palin.
God what a horrible choice. Disaffected Hillary Voters do not represent a very big bloc.

Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
this county is completed divided...
just look at the election percentages...
over the past elections and in the way this election is going 50.7% of the country is leading 49.3% of the country...
if we just had state's rights then it wouldn't be such a big deal, but considering we are just America now in almost any instance (how often do you hear the United States of America, or the U.S.A. anymore....really, there's been a major shift...not sure when or how it happened), considering this, it's tough to be in that 49.3% that is ruled by the 50.7%...
and then you consider that most local and state elections are winner-takes-all and things are even worse...
In my mind's eye I see us about 25-35 years away from another Civil War (unless our great huge federal government is able to declare war on its own people, wait, not war, just make them enemy combatants), because you just can't have one-half of the population ruling over the other half, I think that's just fairly common sense, but obviously not...
I'm sure this talk of Civil War has happened numerous times before (just like the Anti-christ or armageddon) but I really believe it myself....right now a lot of our country is built upon contempt....we make ourselves feel better by having a bigger house than our neighbors, better children or a more expensive car...we don't feel good about what we do on our own, our jobs our just ourselves in general unless we have someone below us to compare ourselves to....that is contempt, and maybe it's human nature, but hopefully it's not...
