Re: Getting into shape
Nuts and granola, trail mix I'm fine with. But unless you have some peanut butter to spread on the celery and carrots, throw that god damned stuff away. I'm serious. I think people just have no chance of succeeding eating that as a "snack". That's not a snack, that's punishment. Just smash your head against a wall and call yourself a fat stupid tub of lard loser over and over - same effect. An apple yes, but that other stuff is just awful.
I eat those flavored Uncle Ben's microwaveable rice things and douse them in Tabasco. Spanish style or whatever. That's quick.
Also - whiskey has less calories per buzz than beer. Just putting that out there.

eating out, that almost always sucks for healthy. I like sandwiches and hamburgers at a bar/grill. I still eat them, and I won't drop the bun -but I rarely eat fries out anymore. And after years of this, I don't crave them, and prefer the salad. I think a lot of healthy eating is re-hardwiring of taste preferences like this.
Diet soda - statistically people that drink it struggle more with obesity than regular soda drinkers. Some of it is, the Diet soda addict can't OCD diet soda their way to weight loss. But more of it is that hardwiring it does to you for sweet stuff and other cravings.
Mrs. Freed can do some awesome healthy cooking. last night, it was a pile of grilled vegetables, and turkey meatballs covered with a tzatziki sauce, all on top of couscous or something like that. That stuff can get expensive and time consuming.
but yeah, replace some of the meat portion of a meal with grilled vegetables (peppers, onions, shrooms, zuchinni-tomatos that's the [expletive] I like) makes a healthy meal, and hardly noticeable diff in satisfaction.

I need my french fries. Or hash browns. Yesterday for breakfast I had biscuits and gravy, 2 eggs, and 2 orders of hash browns because my wife doesn't like them and I ate hers. I'm a potato freak - love my chips too especially on sandwiches. You can turn a regular sandwich into something special with a few potato chips. Fries - the best are Culvers. Saturday for lunch I had a Culvers burger and fries. I have to have fries there. I had a chocolate shake too which is just delicious. I have to have fries and a chocolate shake there. I just have to. The key? Skip the cheese on the burger. You won't miss it.Freed Roger wrote:eating out, that almost always sucks for healthy. I like sandwiches and hamburgers at a bar/grill. Jalapenos. Put them on everything. They make blah stuff taste pretty good. That's another jim tip.
I like Coke. I don't drink a ton - 1-2 a week, but I won't do Diet Coke because it just tastes really really weird to me. That is one that is a head scratcher - I know you must acquire a taste, but how do you get to that point?

Eating a carrot is hardly stupid. Unless you are allergic to carrots.

Re: Getting into shape
Carrots taste terrible and they feel terrible after they all chewed up. Right before you swallow try spitting the chewed up part out. You can't get it out with one spit. You will be spitting like 10 times to get that out of your mouth.
The only thing they are good for is opening your mouth and showing somebody what is in there after they are chewed up. That they have some use.

I am mildly allergic to carrots - make my mouth and the inside of my ears itch.lukethedrifter wrote:Eating a carrot is hardly stupid. Unless you are allergic to carrots.
I dropped my total cholesterol 22 points in the last year - the only change I have made is brown bagging my lunch several times per week, and cutting out fast food almost completely. My cholesterol is still too high, but it is a start. I have started walking at lunch too, so I hope to have my cholesterol below 200 in the next 6 months.
I started my slow burn push-ups again last night - 3 sets of 20 of slow push-ups, I am hurting today.
I don't want to have a dad bod any more.

Re: Getting into shape
the kid is on a personal mission to eat healthier for over a month- goodbye fried chicken and chick strips with fries as mainstay. Soda is very rare. No reg chips or doritos Cookies. Her lunch is turkey sandwich on wheat, carrots, Apple, and baked chips or a few pretzels. Snacks on fresh mozeralla cheese slices etc. smoothies. She needs to figure out more healthy things to like, but she is on it.
I can't get her into a fast food place or Drive thru.
She was in normal shape and health. Her observation within a week of was how much better it made her feel. I notice a pick up in her energy in the evening(goes to gym) and gets less crabby, overall cheerier mood.
I think Michelle Obama campaign the health info-sharing and factoid chatter these kids sometimes get from smartphones etc is starting to make inroads against junk and the marketing behind it. At her age, I would hear how my Little Debbie's for breakfast, or cap'n crunch with a couple scoops of sugar on them were bad for me. But I didn't believe it.
