I'm not sure where you started from and where you are at, but it sounds great. If you don't mind me asking, refresh my memory on your progress.
Thanks! I figure as long as I'm able to add at least a rep (or more) to each set every week or two, then I'm moving in the right direction.

Where I started: As recently as Sept 2012 I was a tick under 300lbs. (And I was basically fat my whole life) I'm now 208.

Or if you prefer a visual, from this: (from 2010 or 11 iirc, I actually got fatter than this but am too lazy to dig through photos for something better)

to this: (from about 10 min ago. I just returned from my 2 hour cardio/sparring workout so I'm, well, nasty, but thin)

Another running race tip. For someone like me-running even to negative splits produces a better result. Run the 2d half faster than 1st. Somewhere I read most records from 1500M to marathon are run with even splits to negative.

Mentally this approach is helpful-kind of go comfortably fast until you hit a mark where you feel like you can kick it full blast until the end.

I work similarly when I train for matches. I'll jump rope or do jumping jacks or kick a bag for 12 rounds of 2 min, with a 1 min break in between. Start working hard, but leave a bit in the tank and crank out the last 20 seconds at sprint speed, simulating finishing a match with a flurry of kicks despite fatigue. Plus sometimes it takes a little work for your body to warm up to optimal performance.

I've been thinking about splits for my mile. I'm going to start experimenting and trying that - except the first lap where I seem to just want to go out and get off to a good start. I know when my son ran they had all sorts of strategy and I could always tell the good runners who came in, because they had a kick but it wasn't an insane kick. When you saw some guy coming in running the last 200 meters like a flat out strong sprint you knew he didn't pace it out right.
