And yeah, I don’t know anyone personally who’s done that, though I could probably guess their sources with some accuracy at least some of the time.

I checked Twitter after that and the journalists are all fussing at him.

I love this thing with Nate. Shaves off just enough of the general niceness of the show

Yeah, Trent did three things I wouldn't do.

The obvious one of course with outing his source. But, he should've asked Ted for comment before writing the story instead of after, and he shouldn't have sent Ted a forward copy of it.

I think I agree in general with Nate. I don't know how they'll play it as a true heel turn or him maybe finally blowing up at his dad.

So Beck's out on his own terms, but everyone else is still at SNL. Also a new guy a new guy is Biden and was in like every single sketch. I'm guessing more of these people leave throughout the season.

I think Lorne has gone soft. The show has always had a lot more/more frequent turnover than this.

With the rumor being that Lorne Michaels is promising unprecedented latitude for established cast MVPs Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant, Kenan Thompson, and Pete Davidson to pursue other gigs in order to give the people what they know and want, SNL is more top-heavy than it’s ever been. (And Kate seems to have taken one of her free passes right out of the gate.) Is this gambit going to pay off? I wonder, especially since the speculation is that Lorne wants to keep his big guns on board for the show’s undoubtedly lavish 50th, meaning the big five will be popping by for three more years like this. Not to be that (old, tiresome) guy, but SNL started out with seven, and if the intervening years saw the show increasing the number of cast members, the concept of a tight, versatile ensemble still holds value. Twenty-one is too diffuse an array to form a collective identity, taking the show further still from the (admittedly idealized) image of a troupe.

One of the new guys does a great Trump but his impression was partly so funny because he’d just talk nonsense. Not sure it will be as good if he’s just following a script reflecting current events.

Rebecca from Ted Lasso is the Shame nun from Game of Thrones, by the way.

SNL thoughts:

I'm not sure why Lorne cares about keeping Aidy Bryant or Pete Davidson happy. Aidy is one of the worst regularly featured cast members on the show. Pete Davidson generally sucks in the SNL format. We get it - you have issues. He's bad in sketches, and he's not even that good with stand-up type material. He brings attention to the show because of his antics, but he doesn't bring any real laughs to the table.

McKinnon, Strong, and Thompson are all quality mainstays. Beck is a pretty big loss - other than Keenan, he's the only male sketch regular I like in recent years. Chris Redd does alright and is better in the pre-recorded sketches. The others are generally lame.

I think the female cast members are as strong as ever. McKinnon is obviously the star. Strong has been a solid contributor for years. I'm a big fan of Heidi Gardner and Chloe Fineman. I think Melissa Villasenor and Ego Nwodim are really good. The rest are kinda meh, but that's a really good top 6. The only beef I have with the female cast is their attempts at Lonely Island style music videos are typically pretty bad. Concepts are usually OK, but in execution they just seem like they're trying too hard.

As mentioned earlier, the male cast is pretty weak right now. I do really like Jost and Che's version of Weekend Update, but for sketches the guys are just generally poor and there are no stars here. I did like the new guy (James Austin Johnson) who has taken over Biden - I think he has good potential.

I think where the show really suffers right now is the writing. Maybe that's just more difficult in the woke era, but especially now that they don't have Trump as a foil they just don't seem to have very good premises for sketches. They haven't been able to develop a good recurring character in a long time. Seems like they just save all of the good jokes for Weekend Update, and otherwise throw [expletive] at the wall to see what sticks (and virtually nothing does).

It's been about 20 years since I've watched SNL on a consistent basis. There are a few hosts I won't miss like Dave Chapelle a few years ago and things like that, but I find it almost unwatchable.

I haven't watched a full episode in years, but I always thought they should go with more recorded material. It's historically some of their best stuff.
