That's odd. Most Christians I know are as far away from being Liberals as anyone I know.clement wrote:Nobody says that people working for charities, whether Christian, secular, or of some other religion, are uncompassionate. Many people do believe that the party that this "base" supports is uncompassionate.
And I think it's inaccurate to lump all charitable Christian organizations as members of the Christian right/evangelical Republican party base. Most Christians I know are very active in their churches, very charitable, and not Republicans by a long shot.

So the laws are set. Who's the ones trying to change it? See my point?TimeForGuinness wrote:Not when all people are created equal, and the government denies them those rights...on the basis that they are gay.BW23 wrote:I thought it was people that were for gay rights that are pushing their views into the legal system.
Nevermind.

That would be in your opinion. I'm pro-life and pro-capital punishment. Believing abortion is wrong and supporting the death penalty, where applicable, are not mutually exclusive. Of course, this is my opinion kinda like all the other "opinions" that are being expressed here. It may not be the popular opinion, may not be the trendy opinion, but it's what I believe. Doesn't mean it's right, doesn't mean it's wrong.TimeForGuinness wrote:This made my head explode...you can't be both people! She's pro-life, pro-capital punishment...

Well, first, if we're talking marriage, that's a religious institution. If your church will marry you, the government should keep it's nose out of it and honor the church's decision.BW23 wrote:I thought it was people that were for gay rights that are pushing their views into the legal system.
Moreover, when were gay people ever formally excluded from having the same rights as everyone else?

I feel the same way. While I think in most cases its not right to get an abortion I fully support the death penalty.tothebeach08 wrote:That would be in your opinion. Sure. Doesn't mean they weren't right in doing so, but they were pushing the rights. That was my only point. It's not the other way around as others have it.Jocephus wrote:were women and minorities pushing their views into the legal system?BW23 wrote:I thought it was people that were for gay rights that are pushing their views into the legal system.
And although I'm not in favor of gay rights or abortion or any other Liberal policy, that wasn't the main point. The Christian right isn't the ones pushing their views into the legal system regarding gay rights. It's clearly the other way around.

Then why can't gays have a civil union and get the same benefits a married couple can? How come they aren't allowed to be at the bedside of a loved one because they aren't "married" to them. What about social security benefits? Insurance?BW23 wrote:So the laws are set. Who's the ones trying to change it? Nevermind.
I have no problems with church's deciding whether or not to hold same-sex marriages within their walls...but the government should not discriminate because two people love each other.
