Kelvin Jimenez, probably going to start at AAA this year. He came over from the Rangers organization, where he's spent the last two years with their AAA affiliate. The word I heard was that he has great velocity, but no control. Seems to have tamed some of the wildness without losing much speed, so he could be the dark horse to make the pen if Kinney is shut down long term.

I know a few people that had personal experiences with him that weren't so pleasant. And a bunch more that just don't like the guy. I didn't really understand why, he was fairly effective during his Cardinals stint, especially 2004.

In 04 he was good, in 05 when my wife started getting into baseball he pretty much sucked.
Well, he wasn't outstanding, but I don't remember him being terrible. Looking at some of his numbers it looks like he was significantly lucky, and shouldn't have pitched to a RH hitter that year. But, his ERA was 3.38 in 77 appearances. That's not so bad that it justifies the amount of disgust with him that I've seen from Joe Sixpack -- who isn't quoting his FIP or platoon splits when he tells me how much he hates Ray King. Of course, I could be forgetting or missing something or maybe I've come across an inordinate amount of Ray King haters.

i think down the stretch in 05 he was pretty brutal, so thats what most people remember. he seemed to let a lot of inherited runners to score too, which doesn't show up in the ERA.

I could be wrong, but I thought his ERA rose at the end of '04, too, but he was solid earlier in the year.

Seems to me his dad was really sick toward the end of 05 and there was speculation this led to his downturn. Then Tony benched him and he lipped off. The media reported they got everything resolved in the offseason and he was traded shortly thereafter.
Borrowing from the Burger King slogan - Tony can have it his way.

I remember going to the second-to-last (or was it third-to-last?) game at old Busch Stadium in late September of 2005. The Cards were playing the Reds, and Albert hit his 200th career home run and 40th of the year (it was a grand salami). Ray King came out and pitched towards the end of the game, and I don't think he recorded a single out. He inherited a baserunner, but IIRC he let a few runs score before he got yanked. The crowd didn't seem too hesitant to boo him, to say the least.
Some of the people I heard talking that night were really vocal about their "hatred" of him. It wasn't pretty.
