I damn near checked in ER early this AM (a first ever for me) to start the XRays etc, but the thought of sitting there waiting in pain with sick people hacking instead of sleeping it off at home changed that.

Starting to go away. Time to head to work.

Side note: humbling. People that deal with pain, like a neighbor friend that is going thru some [expletive], they are some tough people.
Just because I've been reading alot about this recently, I know that shooting pain down the arm is something that needs to be dealt with pretty seriously. I don't go to the doctor for much, but I would probably get that checked pretty quick.

Sucks. I actually get depressed as hell when I get hurt.

How long are you out?

Jesus I am sore. Amazing when you use a new set of muscles, even if you are in good shape, how sore you get. I'm day 3 into the Armstrong pullup training, and definitely feeling it. I don't know what those big muscles in your back are underneath your shoulder by your armpit, but mine hurt like hell right now. I've also changed my core routine, so my stomach muscles hurt a little, and I'm running more for speed that distance so I'm feeling new [expletive] in my legs.

Next week I'll feel better but right now not so good.

Not sure.

It still hurts, not like it did. but dealing with it sucks the energy right out of me. Feel like a wimp since my neighbor friend is seriously ill.

Anyhow, Long story, but in searching for info and trying to get direction from my (ex-)primary doc, found out he is a full-on Botox plastic surgery quack now. Completely useless for info and recommendations, so ended up in ER -initial start of steroids, visit to a real doc next week, and see my brother-in law who is an ortho phys therapist today.

Bummer is how I was just doing that end of year assessment- I was feeling great. Though this will be good chance to fully recover from little stuff -Achilles soreness etc.
Jim-you might flip out on this side note-I didn't fill the painkiller scripts (yet). Nothing about being macho-but I think knowing what causes back and nerve pain and what doesn't is informative-and will help me avoid making it worse. As long as I can function enough to get some sleep, move around. May need it to get thru work day.

What did they give you? I did the opposite when I needed some strong stuff - sucked it up at work, and tried to suck it up at night, but when I really needed some sleep that's when I popped them.

Take care of yourself. You don't want to push that.

Prednisone -taking. Codone and Valium-not taking.

Taking Aleve on my own.

I read & listened to some health and exercise science info on painblockers that has me a believer in avoiding them most the tIme. probably only took about 6 ibuprofens in 2015. Theory is painblockers interfere with natural recovery and marshaling of resources. Even wrt workout recovery.
not being able to get moving or sleep or get to work to make a living, is worse for health than a painkiller. So hold off on pain meds for those circumstances.

Probably not telling you anything you don't know or practice in part.

I didn't know that. I have probably taken about 10 ibuprofen's in the last year. My reasons are different - I need to give the alcohol in my system room to breath. I am 2-3 beer a day person (or now that I'm on a diet a whiskey with 1 beer), I'm sure I'm fine but just to play it safe I just avoid that stuff. My wife I worry about, she pops ibuprofen like candy. She exercises regularly, she has some knee and back issues, and she takes the stuff as prev. maintenance thing. I haven't taken a vicodin since I was playing ball - 4 years ago now.

Prednisone stuff is ... kind of nasty. My Mom blames alot of ailments she has on that stuff. I don't know anything about it.

Prednisone can lead to overeating and/or weight gain, and problems sleeping, among other potential side effects. Not fun.
