It’s time to trade from the OF/MI surplus to get a legitimate starter who can give you 170 above average innings.
They did that last year.

So are peeps buzzin' yet or nah?
Feeling like nah, but we've still got a few days before the deadline.

I don’t believe at all that Nolan gets traded. However, if I am wrong; wouldn’t that mean that Goldy would be traded as well? Either at the deadline or the off season? Commit Gorman to 3rd and Walker to first. Keep O’Neil and Carlson? Use Nolan/Goldy to load up on pitching?

I’m just really happy that the team wont trade Gorman.
He’s a stud. G Keenan was pro Gorman even when he was getting tossed into trades for Soto etc

Also, Goldschmidt’s value should be huge. I was looking at his peripherals. He’s hitting the ball as hard as he ever has. Not doing quite as well against fastballs, but he’s destroying offspeed stuff. He’s easily the best bat available at the deadline.

Yes. This time involving players with longer team control.

There are times I say to myself, “well, at least the Cardinals can’t possibly handle things worse and are finally going to do a fast rebuild and sell.”
Then I read this thread and realize they really have become this antiquated and poorly run.
They’re killing their own trade returns for the off-chance they can save $5M or something.
How did they do this?
I think "cheap extensions", over "trade them, and hope they resign" is how I interpret this. Because in the event that they resign, it will be after other teams have driven the price a few million dollars north of what we potentially could've gotten them for on a team friendly extension.
++
The only upside to talking extensions and holding until last minute is the hope the deadline pressure gets them to accept a deal for slightly below market etc.
Otherwise, there is nothing stopping them from making actual moves now and then just re-signing whomever they want to a market deal in the winter anyway (including the players they trade).

According to Denton there was some traction on this front with Flaherty as opposed to Monty who has been dead set on testing the market since the regular season began and will get top value and nothing else.

But why? Flaherty can be traded now and re-signed in the winter for the same deal (unless you're going back to my original comment about trying to save a little money).
