Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but Palin is under an ethics investigation for abuse of power. Apparently her sister was married to a state trooper and after a bitter divorce, she ordered him to be fired. When the trooper's boss refused to fire him, she allegedly stepped in and fired him herself. The Republican-controlled Alaska legislature has appointed an independent prosecutor to investigate.

Wow.... if so, that's a fumble on the McCain camp's part.clement wrote:I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but Palin is under an ethics investigation for abuse of power. Very Interesting Pick
My thoughts...
1. The GOP wanted to knock Obama out of the news after last night, mission accomplished.
2. The Dems will have a hard time bringing up the trooper investigation in Alaska because it will call attention to Rezko.
3. Biden will have to really watch how he goes at the VP debate, I think there is a huge chance to blunder and alienate women voters if he goes after her like he would have anyone else. Never in the history of mankind has a man won a public screaming match with a woman, no matter who had the better argument.
4. Experience should really be off the table now (I'm surprised the McCain camp hit so hard with it knowing who he would pick for the VP)
5. Does this alienate or rejuvenate the hillary vote? Or have no effect at all?

Two sides to every story, hopefully the investigation will bring both sides to light.clement wrote:I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but Palin is under an ethics investigation for abuse of power. correction: Reading further on this, she didn't fire the state trooper (her ex-brother in law) she fired the commissioner who refused to fire him.JL21 wrote:Wow.... if so, that's a fumble on the McCain camp's part.clement wrote:I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but Palin is under an ethics investigation for abuse of power. Yeah, I read about this earlier. It doesn't look good for Palin that she is coming from a state where the Alaskan GOP is mired in corruption.JL21 wrote:Wow.... if so, that's a fumble on the McCain camp's part.clement wrote:I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but Palin is under an ethics investigation for abuse of power. Was this a personal vendetta against her ex-brother in law, or did he do something unprofessional during the divorce proceedings? It will be interesting to see the entire story, unfortunately, I am at work and have wasted WAY to much time today, so I can't look it up right now.clement wrote:correction: Reading further on this, she didn't fire the state trooper (her ex-brother in law) she fired the commissioner who refused to fire him.JL21 wrote:Wow.... if so, that's a fumble on the McCain camp's part.clement wrote:I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but Palin is under an ethics investigation for abuse of power. Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
True, but she is seen as someone who has taken on a lot of those old-school corrupt Alaskan GOP politicians. But, whatever the story, it's not a good idea to be a target in the midst of an ethics investigation and be named the VP candidate. It'd be different if the scandal had already come and gone.GatewaySnayke wrote:Yeah, I read about this earlier. Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
Why? She spent her career fighting that corruption. That's really the core of her record and one of the main things that makes her appealing to the base.Yeah, I read about this earlier. It doesn't look good for Palin that she is coming from a state where the Alaskan GOP is mired in corruption.
The trooper thing must not be a huge deal or at least something they think they can get around, since it was a known entity going in. It's not like the McCain camp missed this in their screening.

I think that whether it's a huge deal or not will be open to interpretation, though.Fat Strat wrote:Why? She spent her career fighting that corruption.
