Re: Random musings
I see the same thing from men talking about how great their wives are - those men are in the dog house and are trying to get out. The women posting that stuff are trying to show up their friends.IMADreamer wrote:There are people on facebook that post how great their "wonderful" "loving" husband and kids are everyday. It seems like they are either really grateful or they are miserable and over compensating. I'm not sure which but it's annoying either way.
Not a facebook rant, just a thought.

Re: Random musings
I had seen so many women who, when they got engaged, posted pictures on Facebook of them posing with their rings with their very best [expletive] faces.
I told my wife she could share pictures of the ring if she wanted to but I had better not see her do any posing like that if only because of how awful it made her feel every time one of those pictures popped up.

Congrats, happy for you. But your musing is like 312 on the thousand reasons I think weddings/marriage is stupid (for many people). The catty jealousy of getting hitched is unhealthy and beyond counterproductive to a healthy relationship.
I will never understand why women want to be married so badly. I don't get why they aren't as scared as men are of being committed to the wrong person.

Re: Random musings
I guess I have always been more like women in that regard, that I had known since I was pretty young that eventually I wanted to get married and have a family.
I also know that it definitely took longer for me to propose than she would have liked. It was partly because I wanted to be sure of what I was doing first, but money was also a big concern as well (I was making $18,000 a year, but I was still paying the majority of our bills by myself.) The fact that she didn't believe me about the latter part for a long time was one of the most common reasons we fought. I knew we loved each other, but I didn't feel I could do much about it at that time. I eventually got a better job, and I was able to get her a ring I was proud of for her.
But I agree marriage isn't for everyone, and there's nothing wrong with that. I wish more people would accept that, too.

Re: Random musings
The percentage of men who get married is pretty close to the that of women. I think men want to get married just as much. I suppose the idea is women are pushing them to marry, but I don't buy that. Not that there isn't societal pressure and pressure from friends who get married, but I think most people want to be with someone, maybe want kids, and they also get tired of dating. I didn't particularly need to get married formally, but it's the socially accepted way of going about it and it makes conversations with relatives and strangers easier, not to mention dealing with banks, gov't etc...

Re: Random musings
So right now I have the stomach flu and this lovely strain features the most explosive diarrhea I've ever had in my life.
On a positive note I've lost 6 pounds in 4 days so maybe this can be the next diet craze to sweep the nation.

I'm sorry to hear about your severe illness, but those washboard abs couldn't be more timely.Michael wrote:So right now I have the stomach flu and this lovely strain features the most explosive diarrhea I've ever had in my life.
