Don't want to start a new thread. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_lesbian_prom_date

Yeah, right, it's the "educational process" that concerns the school board. How about using this teachable moment to explain that sexual orientation is not a choice and that bigotry is harmful to all, including the bigots?

When I read stories like this it kind of saddens me to think that I wouldn't have had the stones to support her when I was in HS. I wouldn't have stoned her either but...

The school board issued a statement announcing it wouldn't host the event in Fulton, "due to the distractions to the educational process caused by recent events."

The statement didn't mention McMillen or the ACLU. When asked by the AP if McMillen's demand led to the cancellation, school board attorney Michele Floyd said she could only reference the statement.
This is pure chicken-shart on behalf of the school board. Get some freakin' huevos.

"My daddy told me that I needed to show them that I'm still proud of who I am,"
Good for Daddy. At least he gets it.

You're not alone. Not too many of us as high schoolers would've taken that stand. I think it's more likely to happen today because it wasn't even spoken of much back in my HS days, much less something we had a position on.

My senior prom date/gf was black and that was what, four years ago? I don't believe it was a ever any kind of deal at all. Of course I'm pretty sure it was for my mom. She pretty much has hated me dating her.

Time for a new thread.

New Orleans hotel owner Sean Cummings told The Clarion-Ledger of Jackson he was so disappointed with the school board's decision he offered to transport the students in buses to the city and host a free prom at one of his properties.
Wow. Perfect.
