Cardinals placed OF Lars Nootbaar on the 60-day IL with bilateral Haglund’s Deformity excision.
That’s unexpected. It’d been clear for a couple of weeks that Nootbaar would open up on the IL following his heel surgeries, but it was supposed to be the 10-day. Nootbaar has been hitting and throwing since the beginning of the spring and recently resumed running, but we take it that didn’t go as well as hoped. Nathan Church, Thomas Saggese and José Fermín will divvy up his at-bats for at least the first two months.

Is this bad? This sounds bad. I'm only a juris doctor so I can't say for sure.

Well, sure if it turned out that this was growing out of your heel.

Re: Spring Training 2026
In past years, I would have said Nootbaar will be back by July 26th, just in time for the Cardinals to say his return is just as good as making a trade at the deadline.
But that's not the type of deadline trades we'll be making this year. He needs to be healthy well in advance, so that we don't end up with another Edman situation at the deadline.

This roster construction makes Mozeliak look like he was playing three dimensional chess.

Google AI suggested recovery time to be several months to a year, so he may be out for the season.Popeye_Card wrote: ↑March 25 26, 2:41 pmIn past years, I would have said Nootbaar will be back by July 26th, just in time for the Cardinals to say his return is just as good as making a trade at the deadline.
