The more that I'm hearing and learning, the more I'm liking Palin as the VP. A mom with a kid heading over to Iraq? A solid speaker, energetic, and young? Just a great choice all around.

I think that you democrats need to keep in mind that she's not going to be out there pulling in Hilary democrats. She's going to pull in moderate women and fence-sitters who are in swing states like Ohio or Missouri.

Right, it's having good ideas. Unfortunately, Republicans have bad ideas.
And young voters who are un-educated about the issues, when asked why they are voting for Obama, say "Because he's such an awesome speaker!"

Trust me, I work a ton with kids ages 18-25, and that's always one of the first things people say they love about Obama

That scares the crap outta me, because it shows NOTHING in the way on how he's going to lead a country
Younger voters are impressionable. I'm less scared of people voting for Obama because of his rhetoric than people voting for McCain because Obama is black.
But how many people will vote for Obama because he is black?
I really wish race was not an issue any more. Whe gives a rats azz what color their skin is, I care what they stand for.
Unfortunately, way, way, way too many people still care. And that's on both sides of the fence. He'll win a lot of votes and lose a lot simply because he's black. Where I'm at, I'm not going to put an anti-Obama sticker on my car just because I don't want to be deemed a racist.

And there's no doubt that would happen.
I think a lot of people don't speak out against him for the same reasons, but that is why we have voting booths, so people won't know who you really want to vote for.
Well, I don't mind letting it be known who I'm voting for. I just won't be able to say that I'm so opposed to his opposition.

But sometimes it is the most important. A leader has to motivate people to do things and to participate. Speeches can be an effective way to get people motivated to participate in the common good. Yes, the speeches need to be backed up with actions, and at that point, the actions are more important. But good ideas and good actions are less useful if the leader can't get people motivated and interested in the first place.
I'm not saying that it's not a factor in being an excellent commander in chief..
Actually, that's pretty much what you said.
That scares the crap outta me, because it shows NOTHING in the way on how he's going to lead a country
Stop taking my words and throwing them to whatever freaking agenda you want

Him being able to be demonstrative is going to be a good indication on how he is going to LEAD THIS COUNTRY?

Him being able to speak well demonstrates what issues he stands for? what issues hes opposed to?

NO

I'm done with this thread

Yes, leading the country means that you've got to get people to follow you.

I'm not twisting your words anymore than you're twisting the reaction of Obama supports' reactions into being "cult behavior".

Very, very, very interesting

That forum has no official affiliation to Hillary, but...still

Positive small sample size right there for Republicans
That's bizarre to me. It's like it was all about Hillary being a woman.

Is that really surprising?

Don't you think this will easily be the highest black voter turnout ever?

But if you want young and energetic, why would you vote for McCain?

Yeah, it's a great pick. I can't deny it. It kinda takes away from the whole "Obama making history" storyline too. We've never had a women VP.

The comment about the convention speech may have been out of fear. The second is completely plausible. Marsha Blackburn just said that Palin has more experience than Obama, citing her being a "wife, mother, PTA member, businessperson, mayor and governor" and that means more than just sitting on some committee in the senate.

Blackburn had to actually list her being a wife, mother and PTA member to thicken her resume.

Good pick by McCain. It was the GOP's only hope with the foreign policy and economic disasters fostered by their admin.

Now they can make this election another referendum on things that really matter - like patriotism and abortion/morality

( sarcasm intended)

Well, that makes more sense to me. Blacks have historically been strongly Democratic anyway. I don't think that many would jump ship for a black republican like JC Watts.

Women have always been on both sides, so I'm a bit surprised that anyone would vote primarily based on gender.
