But sometimes it is the most important. A leader has to motivate people to do things and to participate. Speeches can be an effective way to get people motivated to participate in the common good. Yes, the speeches need to be backed up with actions, and at that point, the actions are more important. But good ideas and good actions are less useful if the leader can't get people motivated and interested in the first place.JG1982 wrote:I think people are so goo goo gah gah over how Obama speaks that they forget that public speaking isn't the most important thing in leading a nation..

I'm not saying that it's not a factor in being an excellent commander in chief..Gashouse wrote:But sometimes it is the most important. A leader has to motivate people to do things and to participate. But give me someone who has good ideas and is going to lead this country who may not speak as well as a guy who has no direction but speaks really well (and no, I'm not attacking Obama, I'm just saying I'd rather have someone who may not speak as well but is a strong leader)

So did you slam Barry for picking someone with experience? He's trying to get voters the exact same way McCain is with the VP picks.Richie Allen wrote:I'm quite certain he would have picked Rice if she wasn't so tied to the current regime.BW23 wrote:Lieberman would have been the desperate pick and the nail in McCain's coffin at the same time.
And they're both negating some of their biggest arguments against their opponents.

But how many people will vote for Obama because he is black?GatewaySnayke wrote:Younger voters are impressionable. Trust me, I work a ton with kids ages 18-25, and that's always one of the first things people say they love about Obama
That scares the crap outta me, because it shows NOTHING in the way on how he's going to lead a country
I really wish race was not an issue any more. Whe gives a rats azz what color their skin is, I care what they stand for.

Very, very, very interesting
That forum has no official affiliation to Hillary, but...still
Positive small sample size right there for Republicans

Him being able to be demonstrative is going to be a good indication on how he is going to LEAD THIS COUNTRY?
Him being able to speak well demonstrates what issues he stands for? what issues hes opposed to?
NO

Unfortunately, way, way, way too many people still care. And that's on both sides of the fence. He'll win a lot of votes and lose a lot simply because he's black. Where I'm at, I'm not going to put an anti-Obama sticker on my car just because I don't want to be deemed a racist.wart57 wrote:But how many people will vote for Obama because he is black?GatewaySnayke wrote:Younger voters are impressionable. Didn't Hilary just three days ago ask these people to support Obama?
They must not believe in her as much as they say they do.

I think a lot of people don't speak out against him for the same reasons, but that is why we have voting booths, so people won't know who you really want to vote for.BW23 wrote:Unfortunately, way, way, way too many people still care.
