Re: UPDATE: Cards Acquire Holliday, page 26
I think you need to sign Holliday to make this deal worthwhile. Yes, two draft picks are nice from a value standpoint, but they don't change the challenges facing the 25-man roster. If Holliday walks, the Cards will still need another impact bat and they won't have nearly as much in the system to acquire one. Wallace was their one chip and I don't think you can give him up without getting long-term help for the big league club.
I'm thrilled the franchise has awoken from its four-year slumber. I'm actually going to watch the game tonight rather than check in periodically to see when Pujols bats.

Mentioned it in the game thread for tonight, but the press conference to introduce Holliday as a Cardinal will be shown live online at 4 PM.

The more I think about it the more I get pumped....and I was happy from the get go.
Mort and Peterson are nothing special and I doubt Mort is ever a starter....essentially you traded wallace for Holliday and one of three outcomes after the season:
1. Holliday signs extension
2. Holliday accepts arbitration
3. Holliday signs with another team
I like 1 the most and 3 the least. Still, even 3 I can handle because this is just flat out exciting. To anyone upset or complaining, I would recommend living in the present. Because, as of right now, the Cardinals are sitting much prettier than they were 12 hours ago, up 1 game in a 4 way race and have 9 weeks left in their season. In a word, Awesome.

What has been said on NSBB is that DeRosa loved playing with the Cubs, and he must hate going to the Cardinals.keener98 wrote:Id like to see where its been said on NSBB that we are confident he will return to the Cubs. He loved playing in Chicago, but I think that is partly wishful thinking.
What they don't realize is he isn't a fan. He's a player. And apparently, St. Louis is a great place in the eyes of many players.

You have to realize who says some of that over there. There are a few over the top posters and what they say should be taken with a grain of salt. Every board has themFaceman wrote:What has been said on NSBB is that DeRosa loved playing with the Cubs, and he must hate going to the Cardinals.keener98 wrote:Id like to see where its been said on NSBB that we are confident he will return to the Cubs. Yeah I hear ya. I agree that every board has them. It will be interesting to see if the Cards can resign one or both.keener98 wrote:You have to realize who says some of that over there. BTW - I'm still reading there although I just figured out two days ago (I was trying to post something in the Haren thread) that I've been banned.

Interesting, last time we traded for a high profile Coors outfield player was 04 when I went to Nicaragua... I leave for there tomorrow morning. Hopefully we'll go on the same kind of run over the next 10 or 11 days as we did when I was there for two months in 04.
