fyi with the STL connection obv; DA said they'd asked about Tkachuk but he wouldn't accept a trade here/wasn't on his list
acknowledged they don't have the advantage of Vegas, Dallas, FLA with nice weather and tax advantages; said only way to get on teams lists is to be good again (like MIN currently)

Florida may be going for it, but I feel like that’s not a great deal for them. Three first round picks (including a top-10 this year) and a second for two years of the lesser Tkachuk? Larkin was an option for them that I feel like wouldn’t have cost as much - older, but a better contract and I feel a slightly better player.

They also don’t have a goalie….like at all
And we’ve seen with EDM, that it doesn’t matter how good your offense is; you have to get a good goaltender

Fla paid a lot but they are definitely in a place to go for it. With the age of their core, they have at least 2-3 more years of being a legit cup contender. Maybe more with some shrewd moves. I’m pretty sure they will figure out the goalie situation. They still have $7m in cap space. They can afford a $5-6m goalie and a $1m backup. (But yeah, when their window is shut, they are going to be baaaad for a long time)
That price would be too much for us for where we are imo, unless we also pivoted and got a 2C. Even if we somehow got a 2C, I still think we need at least another year (hopefully just one) to see how the defense and the rest of the kids grow before we are ready to start thinking about not just making the playoffs, but winning a round or two.

Florida also missed the playoffs recently. Recently = this year. Sure they had injuries, but they are in a really tough division in a really tough league. I don’t know how open this window really is.

Also the equivalent for us would be along the lines of giving up all three of our first round picks this year for Tkachuk. No way I would make that deal.

fun fact, the blues had more regulation wins than FLA did this year; and we had our own rash of injuries as well

The Washington Capitals have acquired forward Jordan Kyrou from the St. Louis Blues for forwards Connor McMichael and Milton Gastrin and Washington’s first-round pick (16th overall) in the 2026 NHL Draft, senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick announced today.
I like it!!!
