Re: 2025 Trade Deadline Sepculation Thread ALL ABOARD
Before the season, Gray said he wasn’t 100% convinced that the 2025 Cardinals couldn’t accomplish something. Now that he knows the team isn’t going to make the playoffs, would that change his mind about the NTC? He seems to have chosen to come to St. Louis because it was close to his home in Tennessee. But if you read X, even Yankee fans are discussing him, and he was terrible when he was there. Arenado has shown a desire to be traded to a contender. Does Gray have a desire to be on a winning team that would trump his desire to be close to home? I love him, he’s now my favorite player, but he’s one of the few Cardinals that other teams’ fans actually want.

I sure hope they consider waiving their NTCs. Need to sell everything.Mary1966 wrote: ↑July 23 25, 11:18 pmBefore the season, Gray said he wasn’t 100% convinced that the 2025 Cardinals couldn’t accomplish something. I guess the good news is even if they don’t waive their NTC; we only have 3 people under contract next year. Gray, Arenado and Contreras.
After next year, just 2 in Contreras and Arenado. And year after none.
So we have real playoff flexibility, as we only have 69m in “contracts” starting next year.
I’ll be interested if they allow bloom to use that payroll space or just operate like the marlins/rays while he builds up MiLB

This team will do nothing. Please don't get your hopes up. Save all that for the next ownership.

I'm not sure what trade "sepculation" is, but Ryan McMahon will get to face the Cardinals again... as he was traded by the Rockies to the Yankees today.

Not that they would’ve wanted him/may not waive his NTC anyways, but that was about the only spot for Arenado

The Cardinals should decide where Wetherholt is going to play and trade the player who occupies that position while he has value.

I honestly would just make arenado a bench guy/def replacement, but we'd never do that (even though that would prob make him agree to waive his NTC to more teams)
an infield of 1b Contreras, 2b JJ, SS Winn, and 3b of Donny would be very nice offensively. if we were actually serious about putting the best team on the field for 2026 that would be it.
if walker would actually be what we thought, the future would look so much better/brighter
we're going nowhere this year if we're honest, so in September I'm bringing a bunch of guys up to give them a taste/prepare them for 2026
1b - Contreras
2b - JJ
SS - Winn
3b - Donny
LF - Noot
CF - Scott
RF - Burly (LF and RF is we're we really need to figure something out for 2026)
C - Bernal/Crooks (the more I read/see stats for 18 year old r rodriguez gets me excited. have those 2 keep it warm for a few years for him if he pans out)
Bring Mathews up, Roby (if healthy), Graceffo, and move hence to the BP for the rest of the year and have him focus on that. Doyle for 2026 sometime.

I would assume that would be 2b, with Donny getting the majority of reps at 3b

Re: 2025 Trade Deadline Sepculation Thread ALL ABOARD
John Denton wrote an article advocating for trading Donovan. I couldn’t disagree more. He actually referenced trading Edman as justification for this trade. Has he not paid attention that the Edman trade was a horrible trade and we got zero winning benefit from the players we received?! The legit argument is trading Edman hurt our team.
Donovan not only has very good stats, he’s one of those guys who is more valuable than his stats. It’s an asinine move to trade Donovan, even IF Mo actually made a rare good trade. It’s even worse knowing that Mo will most likely make another bad trade, like his Edman trade. Donovan is receiving way less than he’s worth and even giving him an extension is unlikely to change that fact.
