Keith, the Cardinals have invested a lot of high picks in recent drafts on starting pitching. You have them taking Kirby in your recent mock draft. Do you personally think this would be a good pick for them or would you opt for a hitter?

I also heard them on Jacob Nix, so for whatever it's worth, the rumors right now have them more with arms than bats ... but that's probably entirely a function of who might be available right now, rather than an actual preference for pitchers.

Could you see Kevin Newman being a fit for the Cardinals at 23?
Klaw (2:00 PM)
Yes, if he gets that far ... and he might, which is crazy.

I think he stops somewhere in the 17-20 range (Cleveland, Oakland).
Astros prospect Derek Fisher was just promoted from the low A Quad Cities River Bandits to the high A Lancaster Jethawks. In his Jethawks debut, Fisher went 4 for 6 with 3 HR, including two grand slams, and a solo HR on the first pitch he saw. He set a Cal League record with 12 RBI. The previous record was 11 and set in 1954. http://mwltraveler.com/2015/05/31/forme ... bi-record/
I know nothing about this kid...40th round draft pick from gonzaga? took him the same year we took gonzalez in the 1st round from there as well...looks on the short side at 5'11", but has put up good numbers in the minors...
Cardinals pitching prospect Arturo Reyes took a no-hitter into the seventh inning Sunday in a victory for Double-A Springfield.
He retired 18 hitters in a row before Lars Anderson walked with two outs in the seventh. On at-bat later, Kyle Farmer broke up the no-hitter with a single to left field. Reyes struck out a season-high eight batters and matched a season-high by throwing 99 pitches.
He's allowed two runs or fewer in 10 of his 11 starts this season. Jun 15 - 11:17 AM

Wow - Lars Anderson? That's a blast from the past name. My how the stars have fallen - remember when he was the next big thing in Boston? People didn't know what to do with Youkilis and Big Papi with that kid waiting in the wings.
Reyes is a control/command type who is light on stuff, physicality, and projection. He's got an outside shot to be a fringe arm at the big league level if everything goes perfectly.
Cardinals prospect RHP Luke Weaver turned in his best start of the season on Monday, allowing one hit and two walks in six scoreless innings for High-A Palm Beach.
The right-hander struck out five batters in the outing. Weaver, the No. 27 draft pick in 2014, is putting together a solid first full professional season, with a 2.63 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 22/9 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 27 1/3 innings (six starts) for Palm Beach. The 21-year-old Florida State product projects as a No. 3 or 4 starter at maturity, but probably won’t be ready to debut until 2016.
