Four doubles teams were disqualified from the London Games earlier in the day after trying to lose matches to receive a more favorable place in the tournament. The Badminton World Federation punished the eight players after investigating two teams from South Korea and one each from China and Indonesia. South Korea and Indonesia appealed, but China did not. The country's delegation said it "fully respected" the decision. The Federation also threw out a protest by India, who accused the Japanese women's doubles team of throwing a match against Taiwan.
Teams blamed the introduction of a round-robin stage rather than a straight knockout tournament as the main cause of the problem. The round-robin format can allow results to be manipulated to earn an easier matchup in the knockout round.

Will Leitch with a clear-eyed article about how NBC doesn't give a rat's behind about all the twitterverse folks that hate NBC.

Re: The 2012 Olympic Summer Games
Here's the thing that I'm struggling with. If the twitterverse is not the target customer(which is a separate argument considering how coveted the 18-49 crowd is), and they are the vocal minority while most people are happy to watch on tape delay without prior knowledge, then why exactly is NBC so bent on not showing stuff live and then re-airing it for the normal folk? The lesser events shown live on daytime coverage can't be better from a ratings standpoint, and NBC has clearly shown that ratings are the bottom line, so what's the problem with double dipping?Vidor wrote:Will Leitch with a clear-eyed article about how NBC doesn't give a rat's behind about all the twitterverse folks that hate NBC.

Al Michaels made the point that the same complaint has been made every Olympics he has been associated with, less the word twitter.
