Re: Big12 Breaking Up?
If the SEC adds A&M and Mizzou without adding any teams for the eastern division wouldn't that require them to shift one of the existing west teams to the east to keep the divisions even?
But if the SEC does eventually go to a 16 team division they should go to 4 four team divisions which would result in 2 semifinal games every year which = mucho dinero.

Looks like it's official that Texas A&M is leaving. They don't say they're going to the SEC, but I don't see where else they'd go.

I wonder if Missouri will be left in the dust here.

I think Missouri will land in one of the major conferences. They have a lot going for them: A school with a good reputation, decent basketball and football teams, nested between two large tv markets in an area without much invested in other conferences.maddash wrote:Looks like it's official that Texas A&M is leaving. The Big10 would do well to bring in Mizzou.

It would be nice for Mizzou to get to play Illinois and Nebraska again. I'm sure that Mizzou would easily have natural rivalries in addition to those teams also with Indiana and Iowa.

I doubt Mizzou is Big Ten bound. SEC is best-case scenario. Worst-case I'd bet is Big East, which wouldn't make geographic sense, but then again, neither does TCU.

Why do you doubt Mizzou is Big X bound?

BigTen says it doesn't want to expand- that could be spin of course but they really want Notre Dame.

Re: Big12 Breaking Up?
I'm beginning to believe the Big 12 will just add some more teams to stay afloat. Texas is kinda pot committed at this point and no one else will let them join their conference with their ridiculous privileges/demands intact.
There's been talk of BYU (also talk that they said no, which is pretty embarrassing), and other teams like that might make sense. Add Houston, maybe try to get some of the other schools out west who aren't getting into the Pac 12 (eventual 16) and try to stay around.
If it collapses because they can't get anyone else to join, Texas bites the bullet and joins another conference as "just another team". In that situation, folks like Missouri/Kansas/KState may get left out if they aren't proactive first.
The idea of regional conferences, though, may be going by the wayside. TCU is in the Big East, after all. When everything shakes out, I imagine those teams will have a place somewhere and it doesn't necessarily have to make sense geographically.

If I was Mizzou, I'd be lobbying hard to the SEC or Big X for admittance. The Big XII while it may not be toast, has seen the last of it's glory days. With the Pac X, Big X and possibly SEC looking to expand, they will grab any big name schools that are looking to defect and the Big XII will be left holding their [expletive], trying to find a way to pay TX.

Re: Big12 Breaking Up?
we're in that weird in between phase, though. It's still not a given fact that we're heading to 4 16 team conferences. The SEC is the first to 13 (and soon 14) but there aren't any indications at this time that they're immediately jumping to 16. If they stay at 14, the other conferences may not add, or would only add for big additions like Notre Dame.
