You get one chance, and it's changed forever if you mess up. And the oil industry has a long and storied past of screwing up. You know they STILL haven't resolved the Valdez crisis.
Wouldn't this be true anywhere? We drill in the ocean, in Texas, and I'm guessing other parts of Alaska now. The only thing different about this is that it's a designated sanctuary ad of now. I don't see what's going to go so horribly wrong here that wouldn't happen anywhere else. People have had these disastrous images about nuclear power for years and the result is we're way behind on it. I think you can protect wildlife and drill.
I'd rather just get off of oil. I'd volunteer my backyard for a nuclear power plant before I allow them to drill for more oil.

Yes- it's very politically shrewd.
Well if you have no soul then .... ok so it's a good political move.

Takes away the "not ready to lead" argument from the Republicans, IMO. Especially when the heartbeat away is the 72-year old McCain's.

Maybe it is shrewd, but I could see it backfiring.
I guess. But it can't backfire anymore than Barry's charge of change...and then picking a guy like Biden that is part of the Washington establishment that he criticizes his opponent for being a part of, too.

Fair point, but it's not quite as clear-cut. Biden can claim that he's open to change. Palin can't really claim to having more experience than she actually has.

I agree, but if the oil helps in the meantime and it helps even a little in getting off of Saudi or Venezuelan oil, I'm for it.

I certainly don't have an issue with investing lots of money in renewable, cleaner sources and trying to develop that.

Gotta love media rumors and hype.
She can get there. She is the devil, she has ways to travel at warp speed.
Biden also said he wasn't the pick two days prior to it being revealed that he was.

Sure. I guess someone could look at it that way.

Maybe. I think people will be a lot more forgiving with an inexperienced VP. I don't see it being an issue.

edit - cnn is reporting it now.

Reaching the "No Middle Eastern Oil" in 10 years...isn't very hard to achieve...especially if we start conserving.

We just need to back off two countries...Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Venezuela might be good too...but my guess is that nutcase down there will be out of office in the near term.

Hubba Hubba.

In 1984, Palin was second-place in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant after winning the Miss Wasilla contest earlier that year, winning a scholarship to help pay her way through college.[6] In the Wasilla pageant, she played the flute and also won Miss Congeniality.
