I don't know why you'd look to politicians for inspiration.

Good choice. I'm sure the first order of business would be to run those pesky caribou out of ANWR and get to drilling pronto.

A McCain/Palin ticket would accelerate the environmental destruction of our country exponentially. A McCain/Pailn ticket would be a nightmare team for me - you couldn't possibly put two human beings together that I disagree with more strongly on just about everything.
I highly doubt she's that against the environment considering Alaska elected her. Not to mention she sounds like an outdoors-woman (they said she hunts and fishes).
Alaska is one of the worst states - if not THE worst state in the union when it comes to environmentally sound policy. The non-partisan group League of Conservation Voters ranks Alaska's reps in DC among the nations worst.

I don't understand the problem with drilling in ANWR. There's no reason it can't be allowed with governmental restrictions in place. There's no reason caribou have to be moved anywhere.

Also, I liked them using Springsteen last night over whatever god-awful country song picked up as soon as he finished talking.

The dramatic orchestra music is bad too. I feel like the Joker's about to show up in a blimp strapped with explosives.

I think tonight was the night he tried to take away the ammo of inexperience and celebrity factor from the republican party. He isn't there for him, he's there for us...how can you argue against that?

If his speech wasn't uplifting enough, my guess is that it was planned to show that he can be uplifting, humble, and yet firm and decisive. We heard a lot more about himself, his plans, and his vision.

Every time I see him speak, I'm reminded that our leaders can and should be intelligent.

His speeches give me goosebumbs, no joke.
Me too. But it was the kind you get when you're scared.
Scared of what?
Of him winning.
I'll bite...why?

I don't look to politicians for inspiration. I'm inspired by bright, young, vibrant, hopeful Americans. If they happen to be running for office, all the better.

A majority in Alaska probably wants to drill in ANWR, because it would mean huge bucks for them and/or their relatives/friends. Alaska isn't exactly filled with tree-hugging hippies.
Yes. This.

It's basically two big ol' extremes. I don't think there's much of a political center in the state and the people in the state that are far left are usually transplants. They're far outnumbered by the natives, who are very far to the right.

You get one chance, and it's changed forever if you mess up. And the oil industry has a long and storied past of screwing up. You know they STILL haven't resolved the Valdez crisis.

A poll in the newspaper Le Monde this morning asking who is most likely to be Pres. So this is a European/France view of who they think will win...

Obama - 32.3
McCain - 22.5
Undecided - 42.3
No Opinion - 3

(and what is with people that go out of their way to get to a poll and then click No Opinion?)

I'm fundamentally opposed to the left on just about every issue.

I wasn't against it from any environmental standpoint before. But then after I heard the details of BP's lax maintenance of their major pipelines on the North slope, I have some legit concerns.

Oil companies have pretty good environmental safety records. They really do. But they do get complacent in those excellent records too.
