Rasmus is still basically Rick Ankiel, minus the cannon arm.

Rasmus career: .245/.315/.428, with 1 HR every 25.5 at-bats

Ankiel's hitting career: .246/.308/.428, with 1 HR every 25.5 at-bats (excludes hitting stats accumulated when he was a pitcher)

That is a spookily accurate comparison--minus, as you point out, Ankiel's ability to uncork those jaw-dropping throws. Of course, Colby is still only 25.

B-R has Rasmus at replacement level since the trade, and the trend since his health-related break has not been good. I still don't think TLR understood the costs and benefits of the double-switch, but by the end I had learned to respect his appraisals of young players.

What health related break was this? When he got shut down at the end of last season or a more recent one?

Honestly, I find this fascinating. Is he completely broken? Will he ever fulfill his potential? Was that potential wildly overstated?

I thought Rasmus had been plagued by a groin injury for most of August, and been rested periodically in the hopes that the problem would clear up.

Well, he's always needed to grow a pair, though I don't see how rest would have helped that situation.

I think he's 26.

You are correct, turned 26 on Aug. 11
