My big hope is that the InBev backlash will prompt St. Louis to re-direct their beer energy into something the city can be proud of.
So only breweries that bottle their stuff are good? Perhaps they don't want to be sell outs, or perhaps they just want to make good beer that brings people to their bar/restaurant.
Cards24.. - JL is a major boozer and knows what he's talking about, so back away.

What he says is right. There's a reason Morgan Street, Mattinglys, Square one don't bottle their beers and sell it at grocers. Its not all capacity, its because nobody would buy it. These small brew pubs have a place though and I wish them well.

Along this line -Had a weekend in Nashville TN, and wasted my first night's drinking capacity at a subpar local tourist McBrewery akin to Morgan Street, and hate myself for it. We should have skipped it, and drank mid-sized Yazoo (Nashville's Schlafly or Boulevard) which was on tap at most any bar in town.

Do they sell growlers at the bar? All of the micro-brew-pubs up here sell growlers.

I know the Schlafly locations do. I think Morgan Street does as well. Then again, I could give you 64 ounces of feces in a neat jug but it'd still be feces.

I think they do. Usually for really drunk people that don't know better. :) its kind of like a doggy bag full of sushi.

there's still a couple beers from Square One I'd take over any of Schlafly's, and I know I've had plenty of micro brews bottled in stores that weren't good at all, though I will agree that Morgan Street is kinda meh

I just think there's plenty of brew pubs whose product would sell in stores, but they just choose not to go that route. Mass production just adds a whole new complexity to the brewing process they might not want to take on.

Perhaps I'm just impressed with St. Louis because I'm from Cincinnati, who has a strong beer heritage, but really the only "local" stuff they have that's any good is Hofbrauhaus.

Is this to imply that one should not partake in the growler? I get one whenever friends come over for a game, etc.. I don't see the issue.

Absolutely not. High quality draft beer is good for about 2 days in a growler. I'm sure this phenomenon of drunks drinking from growlers like winos from a paper bag exists somewhere but it's not the norm. Mostly it's beer lovers on their way home from work or those who have a pint or two but don't want to drive intoxicated.

Me I use a curly straw in my growler.

And I'm coming from Madison, which has the following within 45 minutes:

-The Capital Brewery (they bottle)
-Ale Asylum (they bottle)
-The Great Dane
-Gray's Tied House (they bottle)
-JT Whitney's
-The Grumpy Troll
-Used to have The Angelic (it just closed last year)
-New Glarus
-Lake Louie Brewing Co.
-Cross Plains Brewing Co.

And others. And then Milwaukee is just a half hour further with all of their brews, some mass-produced, some not. I wish I could find the full map. It'll bring a tear to your eye.

I already told you, it's cold up there so there's nothing else to do than to brew and drink beer. lol
