The NFL touted it's new concussion protocol after the Case Keenum incident last year. It only took one game for it to be ignored yet again. One of these days someone is going to die on the field.

That was a bad hit, and should be penalized. Manning wouldn't have been scrambling and releasing the ball right before the defender got there. Cam is so dangerous. If the defender doesn't keep pursuing right up until the ball is released, then Cam likely jukes and runs for big yardage. It's a tough spot for the defender to be in. It's why Cam gets hit so often.

In this case (and the Brandon Marshall hit too), the defender should have led more with his shoulder, rather than the helmet. No doubt.

Last weekend, met my brother's friend that had a couple NFL years in early 80s with Stl Cardinals. Has some crazy stories about those days-the headhunting one of them.

FWIW-those types of hits were regular and legal. Look at youtube of Cards cowboys game that era- it was no holds barred.

I guess the flipside today is players are bigger faster and more rested due to specialization.

Rooting aside, because I have no great interest...You can't let those hits happen. Like lipp said, how long before someone dies out there.

You keep repeating this. I'm curious if you can share some examples. There's no history that I'm aware of.

Darian Stewart deserves to be penalized or fined, just like Trai Turner of the Panthers does. Everything else looked incidental to me.


Edit: Marshall's hit was probably extreme, as well.

Denver has been known as a dirty team for a long time at least going back to when Romanowski was there. A lot of the cut block rules are also in place because of their OL tactics. More recently they are regularly in the top 5 personal fouls and employ the likes of Aqib Talib who intentionally tried to decapitate a guy by his facemask in the super bowl and eye gouged Dwayne Allen earlier in the year, as well as TJ Ward who has wracked up a lot of fines and injured several players with dirty hits. When they are giving quotes about how chippy and physical they are going to play against Cam because that's their style and then take several obvious shots at his head it looks pretty bad.

The Broncos aren't the only ones. The Patriots and Seahawks have also gotten a lot of mileage out of taking advantage of the refs reluctance to throw flags. Football is the roughest sport there is and yet it is basically impossible to get ejected for any one thing (other than throwing a punch or assaulting a ref). You can do the dirtiest hit imaginable and still the worst case scenario is 15 yards and a possible fine. That last hit against Cam was about as bad as it gets and it cost them zero yards because of the offsetting grounding penalty. Until they get more aggressive about ejecting players or make the in game penalties more severe, teams are going to continue to do it. Especially against a guy like Cam where if you can hurt him you're basically guaranteed a win and his propensity to run gives you plenty of chances to do so.

Very much so. Didn't think that was going to happen. Also cool to see the Raiders win by going for two at the end.

Some WTF moments from today include the Saints calling timeout to kick a FG from the 4 (a timeout they could've used at the end versus the Raiders) and the Jags calling a bubble screen on 4th & 1 on a must have drive versus the Packers.
