I don't mind the cold itself that much. Can be refreshing once I get going. I like how it keeps the riff-raff away in the outdoors and how a few weirdo dog people in my neighborhood will go away for a couple months.

But the additional hassle that cold weather adds to mornings is what I don't care for, as I was reminded this AM.

The notion of strong self-sufficient females in my house vanishes in the cold. Can't tell you how many times they beg me to get something out of the car, or warm up cars etc. Sometimes I say no; usually I just Wart Up and do it.

Today, elder daughter can't muster the strength to open the frozen car doors. So out I go, they open easily. She doesn't feel like scraping so just turns on wipers and the blade sticks and gets dislodged in the ice -so back I go. Then she can't find a scraper. So we get one from other car and get the front window clean.

Then she takes off with the back window completely covered, and as she drives off I say a little prayer and apologize to the World.

The younger daughter, she opted to walk to school with the gang (half-mile), which made me proud. But still, not at the age where she wants to dress properly to meet the cold. Even if she did, she isn't in routine of keeping track of hat, gloves, etc so if I'm the one dogging her to dress warm, I have to get involved there. Hopefully, today's cold walk experience will fix some of that.

Then, when I head out to work, my car door is also frozen shut and part of my door handle breaks off.

Took an extra half-hour to get to work because of ^.

This is why I love the cold. That and, you can just wear warmer clothes and be fine. The heat in the summer here has the same effect on the riff-raff, but you can't get yourself cool as long as you're outside.

Every cold day, Wart gets the last laugh on all of us guys here, as he dutifully delivers a nice cold beverage to hot cousin sunning herself in the backyard.

This past weekend I drove back up to NY to help my dad (who flew in from MO) load up a U-Haul and trailer with all of my power/shop tools/barn stuff/tractors/farm equipment. I would drive back to SC and he would drive it back to MO and unload it and store it in the barn on the family farm for a few years until future-Mrs. Swirls and I buy a house with some land here in SC. All I would pay is the rental fee and he would pay the gas - sounds good to me. Wanted to do it this past weekend to avoid a lot of snow.

Nope. Got a foot dumped on us between Thursday night and Friday afternoon (picked up the U-Haul Friday afternoon), and another six inches before we were done loading everything up Saturday night. He drove through snow all the way Sunday until he stopped for the night in Dayton, OH and woke up to another 4-6" of snow on top of everything. He should be almost to St. Louis at this point (got a text he was crossing the Indiana/Illinois border on I-70 around 12:30 EST.

The current forecast calls for up to four feet by Friday. But hey, the high today was 70 and its 68 for tomorrow!

I was at the apple store in Scottsdale yesterday morning and it was under 70 degrees at the time, so I saw multiple people wearing things like beanies, north face coats and scarves.

You guys would throw up if you saw how warm it is when people bust out their "winter" clothes here.

I'm always amazed by how long some people wear shorts or sandals here in Indy.

This guy that checks us in at our health club was wearing shorts today and yesterday. It's bone chilling cold - we were single digits this morning and he works in an area where one guy wears gloves because the door is always opening as people come in and out.

Booked my trip to Cancun last night. [expletive] this place.
