Re: rant: fine dining
I think our cafeteria at work is about as far from fine dining as you can possibly get. Taco Bell is closer.
Today I had to eat in there and I ordered the roast beef w/ carmelized onion melt. Nothing else sounded even remotely decent. I got a plain roast beef sandwich. Didn't find any onions. And where was the melt? Shouldn't something with melt in the name have cheese or whatever to melt???
Not to mention that I was in there at 9:15 this morning getting a late breakfast and they were already cooking hamburgers for lunch that starts at 11. They cook them and then put them in a pan with broth (I assume, could be water) and they just sit there on the side of the grill until they are ordered (as late as 2pm) at which point they toss them on the grill to basically dry them off and maybe heat up the outside a bit more and charge you nearly $3 for it. Same thing for grilled chicken which will set you back nearly $4. EVERYTHING is full cooked nearly an hour before lunch service starts and just kept in a hot box... and they have the nerve to use the term fresh. Heck, the burgers that they don't sell are ground back up and become the beef in the chili a day or two later!!! I had always wondered about that because I've never seen them browing any beef on the big flat top griddle but then one day I actually heard 'Chef John' tell someone at the end of the day to just wrap up the leftover specialty burgers (they had some weird toppings on them) because he could use them for chili. No wonder we have chili at least once a week. I used to eat it all the time. Never again. Well, not very often. Sometimes there are no other choices unless I want more chicken tenders and fries.
Of course little things about our cafeteria tick me off too like how the always list on the menu 'pasta carbonara with bacon'. No kidding. CARBONARA IMPLIES BACON!!!! Well, I guess it implies pancetta but pancetta is just Italian bacon. They do the same thing with 'spaghetti bolognese with meat' even though bolognese means it has meat in the sauce (outside of Italy, I understand that in Italy there are instances where there might not be meat and still called bolognese but those are rare).
I really don't care for the main 'chef' guy. Not only does he think he's better than he is but for a long time he used the word 'savory' to describe literally sauce on the menu. That tells me NOTHING about what is actually in the stupid dish!!!

I have plenty of practice with this one to the point where I've actually done research to make sure that I'm not wrong when I go off. The 'roast beef with carmelized onion melt' just threw me over the edge today!

Yes, I am a dip [expletive], I took a picture of my meal, but only so I could show hot cousin our appreciation for watching the kids last night.

Also, the skinny 6 foot tall blonde hostess with the massive fake jugs made it hard to concentrate on the conversation at the table - sorry, I did not get a photo of that.
