If Sheehan believes that this is not significant, he is probably not in full apprciation of what apx 2 wins means in two months in the NL Central, especially when the two wins is coming at a cost of a two-tool player and two (barely) warm bodies.
I don't know Sheehan, or a lot of these bloggers who are commenting on the trade, so do they know the team (i.e. have seen them play) or do they know them on paper?
meanwhile Ted Lilly just scratched from his start due to a stiffness in the shoulder. Did he just throw his glove down on the ground when he heard about the Holliday trade?

Two wins in two months is *huge*. Two wins in two months in a tight divisional race is worth a ton.

Exactly ... 2 wins in 2 months? Huge.
Agreed with all of that... and I'll raise you one item- are they factoring in that Holliday is replacing Ankiel, and not just any ol' outfielder? If Holliday is an .850 OPS outfielder, compared to Ankiel's .650 or whatever, how much more offense does that generate?

We hope. I feel very good about the direction of the last month or so -- including this trade -- but the TLR Wild Card is still a factor. Will Ankiel really sit, or will there be bouts of strange four-man outfield rotations to "allow Holliday to adjust," "keep all four productive and involved," "can't just take away someone's job because of a trade," "Rick is really competing out there" stuff that will chip a little away at the margin???
