As someone who followed Kony very closely since he was an 8th grade national basketball "recruit" (listed at 6' 5" and probably 210 lbs and very talented), I gotta say I'm absolutely stunned at his success. Thrilled but stunned.

I thought there was zero chance he would cut it on the field. It had nothing to do with his athleticism and everything to do with his attitude. It was terrible his entire high school career, whether begging schools for money and gifts, showing up teammates, showing up officials, and potutimg/taking plays off when he wasn't the focus of a play. I'm extremely happy that he matured and, quite possibly, showed his true self at MU after getting away from some bad apples that were always in his ear.

I thought if the attitude didn't become a problem then grades were. So happy and thrilled that he exceeded all of my expectations. He was a joy to watch and root for.

I'm bummed that we won't see him play in a Mizzou uniform anymore, but it's hard to blame him. He's one big hit away from ending his career. He might as well get NFL money while taking on that risk.

Mizzou's really trying to be an elite program, huh?

The felony part has me confused. If it's weed, he had to have a whole lot on him or was caught in the act of selling to someone. Otherwise I'd say it's a good bet the charge is reduced to a misdemeanor. If it's another drug, bye bye DGB. Him already getting out of jail is a good sign that he isn't in serious trouble.

I hope it's weed. With several states decriminalizing, the tide may have turned as far as making a kid out to be some sort of felon for having a litte pot.

Well, first of all, that statement was in relation to the first weed arrest last year, and charges were dropped.

Second, you're cutting a tiny part out of the entire statement, which in the broader sense is about growing and learning from your mistakes.

Third, not to pick on you, but I think it's dumb to nitpick athlete, front office, and managerial quotes because it's so easy to take them out of context.

As for the current situation, it sucks on the surface but I'd really like to know all the details before making any assumptions. (not that anyone here is making assumptions)

From what I've read it was under 5 grams of weed. WTF? How is that a felony? Do they have him on camera passing a blunt to a kid outside an elementary school?

We're at a point where weed is completely legal in some states, and it's pretty much an open joke that it isn't everywhere else. Even a lot of conservatives can admit it. But every time someone in the public eye gets busted with it you still see all kind of sanctimonious comments. He's not doing anything different than 30 guys on every D-1 team, and tens of millions of responsible adults. Either he has really bad luck about getting caught, or he needs to find better friends to smoke with.
