No real surprise
Isn't the timing a surprise?
The thinking here was that Irsay would give the new GM the option, but wanted to keep some people in place and gearing up for the draft instead of clearing everyone out.

Heard some rumblings of Marty Mornhinweg joining Grigson and taking the HC position.

Miami hires Joe Philbin. I think I like the hire, but honestly can't really make a definitive judgment until I see more.

He comes prepared to meetings and sounds articulate.

I'm looking for our Denver fans to tell me anything about the new Raiders coach. Something, anything.

I can tell you that Broncos fans, almost all of them, are disappointed that he's leaving, but that's mainly because of the years of instability at the Defensive Coordinator position.

He seems to have a young, innovative, aggressive mindset....... seems like a pretty bright guy to me. He's especially strong at building a pass defense. As a head coach, I'm not sure what you should expect. He must have impressed someone, because he got the job.

Wow a D coordinator despite having Luck as the #1. Means that their offensive coordinator is going to be a very important choice and that O-Coordinator is also going to have a good amount of power.

Dungy was a defensive coach.

Also, I'm not convinced Peyton isn't going to retire. I think if he had to make the decision today he would and he's hoping another 5 weeks will be enough. If he is healthy, I'm not convinced he's gone either. If he wants to stay in Indy as he says (I know, I've been through this with baseball) he may be willing to restructure the contract so the $28M is less of a burden. If he stays in Indy, you don't need much of an OC anyway. If he does retire, I wouldn't be at all surprised for him to pop up as a QB Coach /consultant.

His nerve is still affecting his tricep strength - which as I understand it, is pretty important to throwing a football.

Which now has the timing of the firing making all the sense in the world.

The Pro Bowl is so awful it doesn't even deserve a Rant. In the three minutes I watched I believe I heard the fans booing. WTF did they expect?

I wouldn't boo. Why? I'd be in Hawaii.
