I've about had my full of seeing Barack Obama's middle name pushed against him, hearing about Ayers and Wright and watching the right make a mockery out of hope and faith, all while they're supposed to be the party who cherishes God and religion. It's really quite aggravating. Everything is just pawned off to be "Liberalism." SOME people won't even come to this thread because the amount of liberalism makes them sick or something. I think that's really sad.

Everything is too liberal unless it fits exactly the mold that conservatives want it to. The media. The pundits. The blogs. The forums. The candidates. It just gets really old.

I think your words were that it was the general consensus. Among who? I don't think it's even fair to say "conservative right" in that case. Are you lumping citizens/party members in? Or are we just talking about a select group of commentators who make a living stirring the pot?

The "general consensus" of who? conservatives? The 5%? You're painting a lot of people with a huge brush. I think what you're saying is needlessly divisive.

Rural Missourians. I don't think that's at all unfair as assessment of the consensus in southeast Missouri, at least.

I'm not sure that it's limited to 5%. Think about what we're seeing right now. 8 years of George W. Bush. 8 years of an economy that has not only tanked, but tanked so hard that some are predicting riots before it's all over with. 4,000+ dead in Iraq. Gas 4 bucks a gallon. And yet still 30% think he's doing a dandy job and 40 to 45 percent think we need 4 more years of it.

The truth is, even though BW is one of the rare people here who are actually extremely, extremely conservative, there are a LOT of people out there who are the same exact way or, believe it or not, worse. People who are terrified of Obama because of his name. People who won't vote for him because he's black. People who think that Iraq is a terrorist cesspool. People who think Obama is going to raise their taxes, no matter how much they make. Etc. And most of them see "Liberal" as an extremely volatile word.

If you want a rephrasing of the statement, then I'll put it this way; It's what the belief of many, many conservatives seems to be. It'd be one thing if you could actually manage to debate or have a conversation with the lot of people I mentioned before, but the first thing out of their mouths is "Liberal" or "Barack Hussein Obama." And that's unfair. I've talked to TWO conservatives (both over at 538.com) and actually had a debate with them and they both were pretty civil and conceded points. But the majority that I've personally encountered are impossible to talk to without wanting to rip out your hair.

And for the record, my dad is a staunch conservative. Talks non-stop about Ayers. Talks about how Obama is a socialist (which I don't mind anyway, but it's untrue). Talks about how Liberalism will kill the United States. I've lived with it. I just can't stand it.

armchair psychoanalysis:
you sound like you are in my situation - a good chunk of the people I'm around are like your dad. I suspect you have to bite your tongue on political issues quite a bit, for the sake of keeping the peace with people you care about. after all, we realize that its more important to keep family/friends instead of losing them over loyalty to strangers in the political world. at least we hope.

..like you said, you live with it, but just can't stand it. I don't disagree with many of your posts but sense we share a tendency to take out this frustration in GRB.

So how to remedy this situation? The liberal handbook suggests 2 hours of yoga, with ambience music in the background and a toxin-free vegan diet Or take a good look in the mirror like our liberal hero below:
