Yeah, I've kind of laughed at all of the "Give him a chance!" chatter. As if there was a choice in the matter. I suppose the alternative is to say "[expletive] you, Mizzou" and not care at all, but that's not much of an option when you're the type of person posting on the 42nd page of a Mizzou hoops thread on a forum dedicated to a completely different sport.

I know you love the U and all but ... elite academically? Sure, it's a fine school and all but it's not like they are Vandy or Northwestern unable to take on dumbasses.

It's rated #48 and is a Tier 1 school in the entire country. I don't know the number of four year schools out there, but I'd imagine top-50 and a Tier 1 school (highest possible), is elite by any measure. If it's considered top-5%, how could that not be considered elite?

I'm willing to bet a lot more sketchy athletes have gotten in to Miami than Mizzou, whatever the rankings are for other students.

Normally when I make a silly claim that can't be backed up and someone calls me on it, I change the subject as well.

I'm not sure what you are having trouble following here to be honest, but I'll try to break it down. This is your original statement that started this entire thing:

Haith is coming from a small, private school that is elite academically, to a large public school without the academic requirements. Maybe that will help, maybe that will be very foreign to him and he won’t do very well.

In that statement you insinuate that Haith is somehow going to have access to more talented players at Mizzou, but also more morally corrupt, and you base this all on academics and admittance standards. Then luke called you on it. You try to support your argument by spitting out the US News ranking or whatever, which I pointed out reflects all students, not just athletes, and only includes admittance standards as one of several factors. I then commented that Miami has had plenty of bad apples in it's past, because I find your assertion that Haith's success or failure at either school was/will be impacted by admittance requirements pretty laughable.

I doubt you could provide many, if any, examples of guys cleared by the NCAA that Miami passed on strictly because of academics. I, however, could provide you with numerous examples of guys that got in to Miami that turned out to be terrible people. Things have gotten better there, but they've earned every bit of their reputation. I know you are a giant Miami homer and all, but implying that Mizzou is somehow looser or more lenient for athletes compared to Miami hurts your credibility a lot.

There are maybe 5-10 major D-1 schools that can use academic standards as an excuse for their athletic failures. Mizzou and Miami are not on that list.

The 3 service acadamies, Vandy, Stanford, Notre Dame, Duke, Northwestern, Cal...that's about all I can think of that are a clear cut above that are "major" D1 schools. Ones that I would consider "elite" academically. BYU has a different set of criteria, of course.

Most ACC schools are around Miami's caliber academically, so they aren't really at a real disadvantage.

Your stance is laughable. You're trying to force this judgment of people's character into a debate because your stance is simply not one you can stand on, so you're looking for additional footing (speaking on football players character, and stating I'm a huge Miami homer as if you're somehow not a Mizzou homer). I thought you had the ability to see the difference between simple stuff like a Tier ! school, and a state school like Mizzou, but I guess that's not the case.

As far as I'm concerned I'm finished with the topic because you have no credibility left with which to speak on the subject.
