Let me get this straight, that gambler is putting 100K down to get a 1.5M payout if the Cardinals win the WS? I'd take those odds every year if I had 1.5M saved up. If you put 100K down for fifteen years for a team in the WS (50/50 odds) for a 1500% or -100% return you're almost certain to be right one of those years and likely super succeed your investment.

Check the date, that bet was placed before the playoffs started.

Yeah that 15-1 incorporates facing the Phillies (odds on favorite coming in) plus winning the NLCS and WS against teams who were favored to win more than the Cardinals. 15-1 is almost certainly a bad bet. If the casino set the line at 15-1 then the true odds are probably more like 25-1.
Also, the bettor may have been forced to take worse odds than you or I could have gotten in order for the casino to accept such a large bet. Casinos are a lot more willing to accept big bets on straight bets where they can even out the action on both sides. Bets that pay odds can burn them so they usually set the max bet limits lower.

I've always thought that if I were going to be a sports gambler, I'd always put money on my team losing.
If they win, I'm happy and don't care that I lost money; kind of as if I paid to help them win. If they lose, it sucks as far as the sports fan in me goes, but hey, I win money off of it.
