JERRY: Don't you see, that's the genius of it. If he had said Liam Neeson, you'd know he's making it up.

GEORGE: Neeson? How are you comparing Liam Neeson with Jon Voight? Jerry, we're talking about Joe Buck. If you can play Joe Buck, Oskar Schindler's a cake walk.

Tommy Lee does a lot to help wash the Haggis taste out of the mouth with that one. He was on a roll with that and No Country.

Finally caught Funny Games US on TV tonight. I'd been anxious to see it since it had made so many Worst of '08 lists but had some very big fans. It was interesting how unrestrained it was in its subject matter while showing surprising restraint in the actual onscreen violence. I can see why some folks seemingly missed the point and compared it to Eli Roth's torture porn crap, because the two asides that try to get you to explore your own bloodlust were brief and almost tacked on. I have to rate it a bit subpar for the clumsy execution of its message, but it's still a movie I could see watching with anyone you actually trust to get it.

My buddy saw 'Taken' in the theater last summer in New Zealand. I don't know why the international release dates were so different, or if the versions are the same.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona was really good. Pretty easily my favorite Woody Allen movie although I haven't seen many of them.

I saw The Wrestler last night. I'm probably late to the party on that, but so be it. I thought Mickey Rourke did a lot of great, subtle things throughout - a really touching performance. The movie on the whole - bleak. But it tells the story of two people whose bodies have been used up in the name of their professions.

there's one plot line that was egregiously forced and came off as an awful cliche. Like a made for TV movie style bad. Yeah, I didn't get into the daughter subplot, even though I know its necessity for the overall plot. Really forced.

On the whole, a great character study. Solid B+ movie in my book and probably nets Rourke Best Actor.

Final note - these guys really know how to make several minutes of naked Marisa Tomei screen time unsexy.

I hated the entire daughter stuff and didn't think it was necessary at all for the movie. I would have rather had more of the relationship with Tomei or wrestling or anything, really. It was the only flaw of the movie for me.

Watched "The Express" over the weekend I really enjoyed the movie. It was obviously predictable but still very good.

Watched Soderberg's Che, parts 1 and 2. It's on Comcast OnDemand actually so if you don't want to spend 4 hours in the theater it's a great way to see it.

It's understated, but awesome.
