It's not confirmed but it sounds like the US now has its first case of "community spread," ie, a person contracted coronvirus without having traveled to another country or had direct contact with someone who had.
So here's the unknowable but critical question: How many people in the U.S. right now have it and don't know?

China indicates 80% of those infected show mild to few symptoms. Would it be better to just let this play out like any other flu season.
? Stay calm and carry on?
Sure wish I had some cash in my 401K to buy this dip!

My wife does fitness and nutrition for the elderly. The company she works for is owned by a bigger company which is owned by a bigger company, etc. The bigger company two tiers up sent out a memo that Coronavirus is basically a big nothing and mostly a scare tactic by the evil left to hurt Trump. Without getting too specific this is a rather large health provider.
Maybe we are all going to die.

Nobody believes anything anymore, and things like this virus can't be discussed rationally- public info is useless.
Just another side effect when you have toddler-brained circus clown in charge of worlds most powerful nation and [expletive] around with govt institutions and attacking media.
If we had competent institution that the circus clown didn't turn into his personal plaything, such as CDC - then we really wouldn't need to hear from a POTUS at this stage.
Yeah, media is driving reactions too, being corporate story sellers and all- - but ...anyways.
The public wouldn't know what Info is a priority anymore if it bit them in the arse.
DJIA down over 1000 today.

In just world there would have been an angry mob waiting out side for him and his blood would be running in the streets. In America half the country is cheering him.
How long before we bail out the rich for their stock market losses on this thing?

To be fair, it was - I think - a pretty rational discussion until people started making it political in this thread.
The facts are what they are. And those facts are perfectly rational. The USA/CDC was never going to be able to protect against certain outbreaks regardless of what political party was in charge.
There's a place to discuss it in politics.
FWIW, vaccines take ~18 months to be approved on the optimistic side. It ain't gonna save anyone this go around regardless of how much it costs.
